ON Sunday, January 27 Phillip Island Boardriders Club (PIBC) held their first Specialty Event for the year, with the choice of surfboard as Twin Fin.
Club Captain Ash Easton and team coordinated a fun filled day of approximately 40 surfers across two locations. Beginning at 8am with round one at Summerlands, until tide allowed for round two to be held at Kitty Miller Bay.
Conditions were epic with some sizeable waves coming through and big scores all day.
In round one of Open Men’s and the very heat of the day Dumpy scored an eight, and Jay Panapoulos’s top two waves were both in the sevens. Tate Russell and Harry De Roth later each produced heat scores with an impressive wave combo of eights and sevens. So did Eli Curry in the final at Kitty Miller, also clenching the Open Men’s.
Notable waves in the Open Women’s included Dannielle Baylis, winning her semi-final heat with a two-wave combo of a six and 6.5. Zoe Adams and junior Scarlett Rennie both scored waves in the sevens. In the final Evie Lutz nabbed the highest scoring wave of the heat with a clean seven and secured the Open Women’s.
Special Awards went to “Best Air” by Eli Curry, “Best Tube” went to Jay Panopoulos, with two “Encouragement Awards” to juniors Scarlett Rennie and Tate Russell.
It was a community group effort with Sam Fullarton of @samfullartoncreative generously donating the winner prizes of custom tide charts. Photographer Andrew Lidsey @bunpix and Treasurer Jo O’Reilly Stubbs @joanna_oreilly_stubbs also captured all the action with surf snaps throughout the day.
Final results:
Open Women’s
1st Evie Lutz
2nd Zoe Adams
3rd Scarlett Rennie
Open Men’s
1st Eli Curry
2nd Harry De Roth
3rd Dylan Thomas James
