Poisoned mushroom victim’s condition has 'stabilised'
The condition of Korumburra Baptist Pastor Ian Wilkinson,, struck down allegedly by poison mushrooms, has stabilised. His wife Heather passed away a week ago after attending the same family lunch.

THE family of Korumburra Baptist Pastor Ian Wilkinson has provided an update on his health condition.

They say Ian remains in a critical but stable condition.

“We are hopeful and continue to pray for his recovery. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Austin Hospital for their unwavering care and support during this challenging time.

“The expertise, dedication, and compassion of the medical team have been a beacon of hope for us.

“Furthermore, we are deeply moved by the outpouring of kindness, prayers, and support from friends, family, and the broader community.

“Your thoughts and well-wishes have been a source of strength and comfort to us all.”

The family has however appealed for everyone to respect their privacy while “we navigate this difficult journey”.

“We need space to grieve, support one another, and care for Ian without public intrusion. We will continue to provide updates as appropriate and thank everyone for their understanding and compassion during this time.”

Pastor Wilkinson fell ill after attending a family meal in Leongatha on Saturday, July 29, initially being admitted to hospital locally with gastro-like symptoms but ultimately being transferred with severe abdominal pains.

His critical illness, together with the deaths of his wife Heather, her sister Gail Patterson on Friday, August 4 and husband Don on Saturday, August 5, allegedly from mushroom poisoning, remains the subject of an investigation by the homicide squad.
