An U12 girls’ exhibition match was played ahead of the Southern Gippsland Junior Football Competition grand finals on Sunday.

THREE clubs enjoyed premiership glory following the Southern Gippsland Junior Football Competition on Sunday.

Hosted by the Dalyston Football Netball Club, an U12 girls’ exhibition game launched the day.

This game was open to any U12 girls, regardless of previous experience.

Forty girls turned out to participate and had an amazing time.

It is hoped these girls will now be inspired to play in their local teams next season.

The U12s mixed match followed with Inverloch-Kongwak taking on Leongatha.

Inverloch-Kongwak won an early lead, kicking one goal and four points in the first quarter.

Both sides played competitively through the rest of the game with Leongatha stepping it up for the fourth quarter.

A goal to Leongatha saw the Parrots closing in on Inverloch-Kongwak’s score, but the Sea Eagles rose to the occasion and held on to the win.

Final score: Inverloch-Kongwak 1.10.16 to Leongatha 1.2.8.

Dalyston took on Inverloch-Kongwak in the U14 girls’ grand final, with Dalyston ultimately claiming the win.

The Magpies were strong from the beginning, kicking three early goals and demonstrating a lot of skill across the board.

Dalyston’s leading goal kicker was Kyesha Welling, with singles kicked by Rubi Oxley and Paige Yann.

Although Inverloch-Kongwak was kept scoreless for the first three quarters, its pressure intensified to slow Dalyston’s run.

Dalyston kicked one goal per quarter to the end of the game and Inverloch-Kongwak kicked one behind in the last quarter.

Final score: Dalyston 6.4.40 to Inverloch-Kongwak 0.1.1.

The final showcase of the day was the U14 mixed match – again between Inverloch-Kongwak and Leongatha.

This time, Leongatha claimed the victory after a thrilling game.

Leongatha came into the match as the underdog but quickly made its mark on the game with two goals in the first quarter.

Beau Elkin was Leongatha’s leading goal kicker, who scored three goals.

Harry Whelan kicked two goals and singles were kicked by Jacob Dean and Logan Misale.

Inverloch-Kongwak began to make its comeback in the second quarter, getting a score on the board and keeping Leongatha scoreless.

Inverloch-Kongwak’s leading goalkicker was Harvey Sorensen with two, and James Martin and Max Tonkin kicked one each.

Leongatha had a surge through the third quarter, which ultimately decided the match.

Rallying together as a team, Leongatha gained momentum and added five goals to its score.

Despite a scoreless fourth quarter for Leongatha, Inverloch-Kongwak could not regain the ground.

The Sea Eagles didn’t give up and continued to put goals on the board until the final siren, but Leongatha gave its all on the day and reaped the rewards.

Final score: Inverloch-Kongwak 4.6.30 to Leongatha 7.4.46.
