NERRENA continued on its winning way with a victory over Wonthaggi Club in a close contest on Saturday.

Playing at the Wonthaggi Secondary College, Nerrena sent Club into bat first.

This looked to be a good decision with the dismissal of vice-captain Will Speed for five runs and Jed Caddy for a duck.

However, fourth bat Justin Licis stepped up to the crease and made a ton before he was stopped by a catch from Brian Gannon off the bowling of Gerard Murphy.

Lucas McRae added 32 runs before the end of the innings.

Opening batsman Chris Fraser made seven runs but was not out at the end of Club’s allotted overs.

Billy Trotman had Nerrena’s best bowling figures, taking 3/26, including the dismissal of Caddy and McRae.

Club set the target at 6/165.

Gannon and Trotman opened for Nerrena and made a modest start with 15 and 17 runs respectively.

Trotman’s wicket was the first to fall, taken by McRae at 1/29.

Murphy entered and went on to top score with 72 runs.

This, combined with the efforts of Christos Marinou and Wayne Cocksedge, would win the game for Nerrena.

Marinou and Cocksedge made 26 and 20 runs respectively.

McRae and captain Sam Liddle took two wickets each for Club.

The single wicket was taken by Alan Babu.

Nerrena just got over the line with a score of 5/166.
