B Grade, Division 1

NERRENA amassed 202 runs before it decided to declare against Korumburra on Saturday.

Weather once again threatened the match, but play was able to get underway at the Korumburra Recreation Reserve,

Nerrena’s innings was washed out after 31 overs the week before, so the Red Caps had the opportunity to complete its remaining 37 overs.

Before the wash out, opening batsman and captain Damien Symmons had made 75 runs. 

He retired not out this week.

Joel Renden continued to bat, making 44 runs before his wicket fell to Shane Dole.

William Croatto added 21 runs later in the innings.

Bowling honours were shared between Shane and Liam Dole, claiming four each.

Nerrena declared at 9/202 in the 47th over.

Korumburra played 40 overs but could not reach Nerrena’s total before stumps.

Opening batsman Caleb Turton put 20 runs on the board, followed by fourth bat Mathew Allen top scoring with 39 runs.

For Nerrena, Mitchell Croatto was the top bowler, taking 3/19.

Korumburra’s final score was 6/117.

Womersley leads the way

MDU put up a fair fight, but Phillip Island was up to the challenge.

Heath Womersley opened for Phillip Island, focused on the target of 10/216.

He made 80 runs before he was caught by Daniel Field off the bowling of Tyrone Zukovskis.

Max Arceo added 50 runs to the tally, seeing Phillip Island get over the line.

MDU Simon McRae did all he could to slow Phillip Island’s run rate, taking 4/60.

The game went to Phillip Island with a final score of 7/217.

Stingrays’ tail survives

A close contest was waged between Inverloch and OMK, with Inverloch ultimately emerging the victors.

OMK had made 10/190 the previous week, which Inverloch managed to pass in the 68th over.

Captain Brett Debono and Walter Taberner opened for Inverloch.

Taberner made 17 runs before his wicket was claimed by Trevor McGeachin.

Dylan Clark joined Debono at the crease, and the pair made 60 and 25 runs respectively.

The score had reached 4/140 when Clark was bowled by David Jeffries, which sent in Archie Terlich.

Terlich added a handy 22 runs, which made the difference for the Stingrays, as fewer runs made it to the scoreboard in the second half of the innings. 

OMK bowler Mitchell Andrew claimed 3/61 and McGeachin took 2/41.

Inverloch’s winning score was 9/191.

Wonthaggi Club had the round 12 bye. 

B Grade, Division 2

Imps celebrate success

THE Imperials rose to the occasion and bowled out Leongatha Town to claim a first innings win on Saturday.

It seemed the Imperials would be up against it when they were bowled out 10/132 the previous week, but wickets shared between Lucas Anderson, James Jeffery and Martin Reidy saved the game.

Town had played 32 overs the previous week and resumed the match from 6/98.

Reidy demolished Town’s bottom order, claiming three wickets.

Anderson took the last wicket of the innings, taking his figures up to 4/40.

Town’s top scores were 36 runs from Trent McRae and 27 runs from Colin Bruce made on day one.

Town was bowled out 10/111.

The Imperials went back into bat.

Opening batsman Kristian Gray was dismissed by Lachlan Gill for two runs, but Gary Sauvarin and captain Samuel Vagg managed to get 16 and 17 runs on the board respectively.

Fourth bat Andrew Meyer helped the Imperials pick up speed with 20 runs.

Anderson and Cameron Bruce were the stars of the day, making 44 and 34 runs respectively.

Bruce was not out at stumps.

Town’s top bowler was captain Pandukabhaya Jayasinghe with 3/8.

Two wickets were claimed by McRae.

The Imperials’ second innings score was 7/164.

Ford cleans them up

Foster reigned supreme over Koonwarra/LRSL, with bowler Chris Ford taking an incredible eight wicket haul. 

Foster had set the target at 10/143 and successfully defended the score.

Koonwarra/LRSL had made 4/39 before stumps the previous week.

A quiet start to the innings turned around with middle order batsman Nigel Grimes, who made 19 runs before he was dismissed LBW by Ford.

Isuru Darshana and Sam Hughes added 13 and 14 runs respectively.

Ford smashed through the batting order, recording bowling figures of 8/37.

Jack Gay was the only other wicket taker, claiming 2/33.

After 49 overs, Koonwarra/LRSL had lost the match with a score of 10/104.

Too few to protect

Nyora outplayed Kilcunda-Bass to take the points on Saturday.

Nyora resumed its innings, aiming for Kilcunda-Bass’ score of 10/134.

Opening batsman continued his run with Daniel Esler.

Knox made Nyora’s top score of 58 runs before he was run out.

Esler was quickly dismissed for three runs, bringing the score to 2/30.

Esler’s dismissal started a string of low scores, caused by Kilcunda Bass bowlers Andrew Leighton, Ben Rookes and Chris Peckett.

Rookes and Peckett took Kilcunda-Bass’ bowling honours with 2/43 and 2/13 respectively.

Batsman Daniel Blackney set Nyora back on the winning course, making the difference and securing the win with 34 not out.

Nyora’s winning tally after 53 overs was 7/141.

Glen Alvie had the round 12 bye.
