C1 MINOR premier Nerrena issued one final slaughter ahead of the finals with a clear-cut victory over Leongatha Town.
Town hosted Nerrena, and the home side won the toss and chose to bat.
In a team effort, which saw seven bowlers share in the glory, Nerrena made its way through Town’s batting order.
Tim Cashin opened for Town and put 13 runs on the board.
Fourth bat Travis Strybosch top scored with 35 runs, but these were the only notable scores in the innings.
Nerrena’s Cameron Baudinette led his team to victory by taking 4/6.
Single wickets were taken by Shem Murphy, Eamon Berryman, Jack Donohue, Daniel Grigg, Brendan Salmon and captain Brian Gannon.
Town was bowled out 10/76.
Nerrena batsmen Billy Trotman and Wayne Cocksedge claimed the win.
Trotman made 40 not out and Cocksedge made 30 runs before he retired not out.
Grigg polished off the innings with nine runs.
Nerrena’s winning score was 0/87 from 15 overs.
Club scrapes past Korumburra by one
A CLOSE battle was waged between Wonthaggi Club and Korumburra, with Club ultimately coming out on top by one run.
Club went into bat first and, despite 23 runs made by Chris Fraser, the top of the order was wiped out by Korumburra’s Darren Scott.
Scott claimed 4/19, but Korumburra wasn’t done there, as Fraser’s 23 was the top score of the innings.
Trae Dudas-Jacobs made 14 runs before he fell victim to Scott, and Luke Borne and Alan Babu made 15 and 13 runs respectively at the tail end of the innings.
Korumburra bowlers Patrick Beadel, Hudson Jefferis and Shayne Harland claimed two wickets each, bowling out Club at 10/102.
The pressure was on for Club to defend its score.
Captain Sam Liddle made a great response on behalf of his team, claiming 6/21.
Scott made Korumburra’s top score of 22 runs, with Iain Riddell making 18 runs and Rhys Butler finishing off with 16 runs. Club’s other wicket takers were Fraser and Bailey Harvey.
Club just made it, bowling out Korumburra 10/101.
OMK finishes strong
OMK ended the home and away season with a win against Phillip Island.
Playing at the Cowes Recreation Reserve, Phillip Island won the toss and chose to bat first.
A hiccup to start left it up to third bat Tony Hornsby to put a score on the board.
Hornsby made 18 runs before he was caught by Toby Nicholas off the bowling of Jordan Myors.
Daniel McCausland later top-scored with 19 not out.
OMK bowler Brad Hayes went on a run to finish the innings, dismissing Jaxen Marshall for a duck and Zack Hughes and Liam Cleary (run out) for golden ducks. Hayes claimed 2/4 and Myors took 2/24.
Single wickets were taken by Russ White, Nicholas and Justin Greenwood.
Phillip Island’s innings ended when it was bowled 10/62.
White and Craig Hart opened for OMK, with White dismissed early when his wicket fell to Lawrence Ferrari for one run.
Hart and Hayes were the next partnership in, making 18 and 35 runs respectively.
Hart’s wicket was taken by Hornsby and Hayes was not out at the end of the game.
Hayes saw out the innings with Mitchell Nicholas, who made eight runs.
OMK’s final score was 2/64.
Kilcunda-Bass had the bye.
The C1 semi-finals will be played this Saturday.
Semi-final one will be between Nerrena and Korumburra, and semi-final two will see Wonthaggi Club take on OMK.
C Grade Division 2



Stingrays hold onto minor premier title
ALTHOUGH MDU upset Inverloch on Saturday, the Stingrays maintained the top of the ladder to see out the home and away season.
MDU won the toss and chose to let Inverloch bat first.
David Harris made a strong start to the innings with 33 runs.
A further 29 runs were added by fourth bat Will Rankin.
For MDU, Stephen Riley had the best bowling figures taking 3/23.
Lochlan Webb and Craig Hoober claimed two wickets each.
Inverloch played out its 35 overs and made 7/132.
MDU’s opening partnership of Clayton Fisher and Kurt Sinclair was quickly dismissed, but that opened the door for Tyler Cocksedge and Hoober to step in.
Cocksedge made 39 runs and Hoober made 43 runs – scores that would make all the difference.
Inverloch bowlers Jason Smith, Michael Asbury, Isaac Richardson and Rankin ensured MDU’s scoring opportunities were limited from then on.
Smith had Inverloch’s top bowling figures, taking 3/18.
However, MDU just got itself over the line, making 8/133 before the end of its innings.
Walker’s century powers OMK
PHILLIP Island recorded some excellent scores on Saturday, but it still couldn’t match OMK.
The Sharks travelled to Digger Park, where they won the toss and chose to bat first.
Peter Francis and John Manning opened for Phillip Island, making 82 and 65 runs respectively.
The score was 1/109 when Manning’s wicket was the first to fall, taken by Matt Whiteside.
Steven Niven stepped up and added 26 runs to the tally.
Deane Mani added 15 not out, Ryan Hughes was run out for a golden duck and Wade Paterson made three not out.
For OMK, wickets were also taken by captain Michael Whiteside and Mathew Walker.
Phillip Island was ready to defend 4/204, but OMK had other plans.
OMK sent out Walker and Donald Wylie to open, who made 108 and 54 not out respectively.
Wylie was dismissed LBW by Peter Francis, which sent in Craig Walker.
Craig Walker had time to add two runs to the tally and was not out when OMK had the game.
OMK’s winning score was 1/205.
Bolding’s bowling and Thorn’s batting seal Glen Alvie’s win
GLEN Alvie celebrated a win against Koonwarra L/RSL at the Leongatha Velodrome.
Koonwarra L/RSL won the toss and chose to bat.
Captain Jordan Pickersgill opened with 31 runs.
Dan Isgro made 26 runs and the top score was made by vice-captain Shane Paterson with 55 runs.
Tai Bolding was Glen Alvie’s top bowler, taking 3/16, and Nate Luff claimed 2/30.
Koonwarra L/RSL was bowled out 10/174.
Tyson Lund put the pressure on Glen Alvie as he dismissed opening batsman Kent Andersen for one run and third bat John Cuttriss for 10 runs.
However, the partnership of opening batsman Charlie Andersen and captain Ian Thorn combined well to make 49 and 73 runs respectively.
Thorn was not out at the end of the match.
Lund took 2/18, with Jack Hawkins the only other wicket-taker.
Glen Alvie won with a score of 4/177.
Nyora had the final-round bye.
C2 will now be gearing up for finals with Inverloch facing Glen Alvie and Phillip Island playing against MDU.
