Much ado and speculation has been bandied about regarding the activities of Freemasons so here is your opportunity to come and see for yourselves.
On Saturday, October 8, a ceremony will be conducted to install a new Worshipful Master of the Powlett Masonic Lodge here in Wonthaggi.
This cannot be compared to a changeover dinner function, as is conducted in some other community-based organisations as an extensive ceremony will be required to install a new Worshipful Master and his officers followed by a banquet at the Workmens Club.
Mr. Don Roy BJ JP is the Master Elect and has decided that the ceremony will be an open one which means members of the public are invited to attend, and see for themselves some of the ceremonial aspects of Freemasonry.
The ceremony will be conducted by the acting Grand Master of Victorian Freemasons accompanied by his team of Grand Officers who will be coming from Melbourne and other parts of Victoria to conduct this very solemn and extensive ceremony
Although ceremonial activity is a very important part of Freemasonry, it is only a small part of being a Freemason.
For example, we are active in charitable causes and have recently secured $12,500 towards the purchase of a new vehicle for the Bass Coast L2P driver mentor program.
We admit good men and good men only, irrespective of race, colour or creed and strive to improve them.
The proceedings start at 3.30pm sharp and guests will be entertained by a very interesting talk by the Wonthaggi Historical Society and then you will be admitted to the interior of the lodge room to witness the ceremony of installation.
The minimum dress code is coat and tie, ladies after five. The following banquet is optional for which a cost of $40 will be collected on the night.
Naturally we do ask that those wishing to attend this very interesting and colourful ceremony should notify Mr. Russell Anthony on 0484 602 590 or myself Ken Barnes, the outgoing Worshipful Master, on 0403 218 830.
The term “Worshipful” is used by us as a mark of respect for merit and has no religious connotations whatsoever.
