A Grade, Division 1
THE bowling combination of captain Joel Brann and Ryan Thomas ensured Wonthaggi Club had a convincing win over OMK at the Outtrim Recreation Oval.
While OMK hosted its Pink Stumps Day, the cricketers were vying for the Blair Hunter Cup, which ended up in Club’s hands.
Club had made 10/212 and it was OMK’s time to bat.
A slower start saw Ryan Williams and Ethan Lamers dismissed for 10 runs and a duck respectively.
However, opening batsman Zavier Lamers and captain Koby Brann made an attempt to steer the ship back in the right direction with 32 and 45 runs respectively.
Unfortunately for the Diggers, these were the most impactful scores of the day.
Brann and Thomas upped the intensity and dismissed the bottom of the order in quick succession.
Brann claimed 7/41, including the dismissal of Travis Pickering for a golden duck just before the close of the innings.
Thomas took 3/21.
OMK was bowled out 10/119 and Joel Brann was named man of the match.
Cougars skittled
Koonwarra/LRSL was no match for the might of Phillip Island on Saturday.
Phillip Island went into Saturday’s game fired up to defend its total of 9/252, and the Cougars could not respond with the same momentum.
Playing at the Cowes Recreation Reserve, Anthony Hunt opened for the Cougars and made 14 runs.
The Phillip Island bowlers ran through the top order but captain James Rushton batting at number four managed to add 15 runs.

The top score came from Jason Kennedy, who made 27 runs while the tailenders were lost for ducks.
Thomas Niven was Phillip Island’s best bowler, taking 3/21.
Timothy Niven and Jarrod Black claimed two wickets each.
Ultimately, Koonwarra/LRSL was bowled out 10/73.
Red Caps win again
After a slow start due to the weather, Nerrena continued on its winning way to claim the points from Korumburra.
Nerrena resumed its innings from 1/42, chasing 10/137.
Jack Curtis opened for Nerrena, making 32 runs before he was run out early on day two.
Tadgh Gannon and Jarrod Hoy combined well to make 22 and 40 runs respectively.
Tom Cameron and Mitchell Clark sealed the deal with 25 and 14 not out, passing Korumburra’s score and recording 4/139 after 32 overs.
Korumburra bowler Ben Spicer had the most success for this team, taking 2/50.
Harry McNeil was the only other wicket taker.
Weather prevails
The Imperials and Leongatha Town recorded score of 10/164 and 1/39 respectively after day one the previous weekend.
However, the clubs decided to abandon the match due to poor weather conditions on Saturday.
