Well said! (“Slow them down, please”, Sentinel Times, 24/1.)
Your coverage of the traffic crisis in Woolamai put it simply – too many speeding vehicles in the residential part of the township is dangerous for residents. Not surprising with the speed limit of 100kph.
Visitors as well as locals use the nearby Rail Trail. They have to park cars on the narrow road at two Rail Trail access points, both of which cross the 100kph roads.
Speeding trucks, hoon drivers and motor bikers create noise levels loud enough to wake adults and children, both day and night, especially at weekends and holidays. This is unacceptable in a rural hamlet off a major highway.
Many council trucks pass through the residential zone on way to a council dump site. Having to stop at a T junction and then accelerate into the turn to go up a steep hill to the site, results in a very noisy passage past people’s homes.
This council dump site used to be the best lookout spot over Westernport Bay and the islands. It could be redeveloped into a tourist attraction.
A big thank you to Deputy Mayor Cr Halstead, who has heard our pleas and has taken action on our behalf. Thank you Cr Halstead, and the Sentinel Times.
