WONTHAGGI swimmer Amy Hodson has swam a remarkable 30 kilometres in the past month and raised $7076 as part of the Starlight Foundation’s Super Swim Challenge.
Amy is a member of the South Gippsland Bass Swimming Club and swam her final 2.2 kilometres as part of her squad training at the Wonthaggi YMCA recently to reach her 30 kilometre goal.
Her teammates finished a lap short and lined the lane rope to cheer Amy home for her final metres.
Amy shared that this year’s challenge was harder to achieve, after battling an eye infection that kept her out of the water for a few days over February, plus the severe weather that caused a power outage to the regional swimming pool for another few days.
“Despite these challengers, the encouragement from the community and the generous donations kept me swimming,” said Amy.

Amy’s mother Robyn Hodson is tremendously proud of young Amy and has shown her support throughout both Amy’s challenges over the past two years. Robyn shared that Amy had a 19-day streak where she swam every day!
President of the South Gippsland Bass Swimming Club Janelle Croatto said Amy’s passion, not only for her swimming, but to raise money for other kids through the Starlight Foundation demonstrates the wonderful person that she is.
“We are so lucky to have her as part of the South Gippsland Bass Swimming Club.”
Robyn said Amy was overjoyed to have raised $7076.
“Now if we could get a 50-metre pool in Wonthaggi to be able to train and compete the world would be her oyster!”
