Three-peat for Parrots
Parrots reserves players celebrate their premiership win.

LEONGATHA’S Reserves made it three flags straight, never allowing Bairnsdale to mount a serious threat, but it wasn’t an easy day for either side.

Challenging wind, large numbers around the ball and finals intensity ensured goals were at a premium throughout the match.

One of the winning side’s best, Darcy Hume, was the game’s only player to boot more than a single major, managing a couple that included a classy snap early in the second quarter.

It was big man Josh Schelling who created that opportunity when he drove the footy into attack.

Schelling toiled hard in the ruck, often against Liam Bleyswyk, and while the Parrot went on to claim the Best on Ground medal for the second year running, Bleyswyk was listed in the Redlegs’ best.

Hume was one of the classier performers, winning the footy effectively and using it well.

Jacob Lamers was in the game from early on, racking up possessions and showing composure, including taking a mark in defence late in the first term that ensured Bairnsdale remained scoreless at the opening break.

The Parrots rated Xavier Bolge’s game highly, naming him as their top performer, his ability to help Leongatha clear defence important in preventing Bairnsdale from getting into the game.

Bolge read the play adeptly early in the third quarter, intercepting a Bairnsdale short pass inside the Redlegs’ attacking arc and getting the Parrots out of danger.

Although Leongatha wasn’t creating many highlights its work proved effective, the Parrots taking a five-goal lead into the last quarter and going on to triumph by 35 points.

Charlie Cook did best for Bairnsdale, helping repel Leongatha attacks and showing moments of dash and creativity.

Once again, proud dad John Schelling had the honour of
presenting Josh with his Best on Ground medal as a representative of the competition sponsor Evans Petroleum.

Back in the rooms, Leongatha playing coach Rhett Kelly praised his team’s tackle pressure and held up the Premiership Cup saying Santa had dropped it off.

While Leongatha’s Senior side couldn’t match the Reserves triple premiership streak, there is still plenty for the Parrots to celebrate.
