LAST week’s Grand Final at the Darts Centre was a clash for the ages as The Vikings faced off against The Storm in an unforgettable showdown. With the 2024 season coming to a thrilling close, both teams left it all on the board in what will be remembered as one of the most epic finishes in the Phillip Island and Districts Darts League’s history.
The crowd was on edge as the match came down to the very last doubles, with both The Vikings and The Storm on equal footing and just one shot away from glory. Tension mounted as each team had their chances to close it out, but it was The Vikings who held their nerve, pegging out to secure the Grand Final title by the narrowest of margins, winning 4-3.
The intense battle was a true display of skill, precision, and sportsmanship, with both teams earning praise for their efforts.
“It was a hard-fought final, and we couldn’t have asked for a more exciting finish,” said one spectator. “Both teams gave it their all, but The Vikings just edged it when it mattered most.”
Meanwhile, the excitement didn’t end there. In the Gumboot Final, another tight
contest saw The Riverboys overcome Joe’s Hornets, winning 5-2. The match was closer than the final scoreline suggests, with The Riverboys pulling away in the final legs to clinch victory.
A special thanks goes out to Will and Jamie, whose expert scoring kept the matches running smoothly throughout the evening. Off the boards, John Battista had a night to remember, winning the San Remo Butchers’ meat tray and a round of beers in the raffle. “Good on ya, Johnny!” echoed from the crowd as he celebrated his prizes.
As the season comes to a close, the League extends its gratitude to the committee and members who made 2024 such a success. A well-earned break is on the horizon, but the action isn’t over yet.
