IT’S A long way from Broken Hill to Sydney by foot, but that’s how far 41 Wonthaggi Road Runners (WRR), divided into three teams, have walked or ran over the past 19 days in the annual ‘Run Against Violence’ challenge.
The event encourages people to help raise awareness of the issues many face due to violence and raises funds to help run prevention programs.
The event is based on a run Kirrily Dear did in 2014 along the same route, to raise awareness of intimate partner violence.
The teams logged each run or walk they did, with the team progress monitored online and the teams able to see their progress.
There was much rivalry between the teams, with the WRR pacemakers finishing first, followed by the WRR Waterline team 18-hours ahead of the WRR Inverloch team.
Participants don’t have to be super fit, just committed to doing some kilometres each day for the team.
Ages ranged from 10 year old Emma Barclay, who walked to and from school each day to older members adding 42km, including Etsuko who ran an amazing 314km in that time.
They participants also raised $500 towards the events Love Bites program.
