LEONGATHA Imperials legend Gary Sauvarin is still finding ways to dominate opposition bowlers, making a crucial 86 runs in their win over Korumburra.
The Imperials chose to bat at East Campus and Aydan Williams 27 and Alan Curnow 23 were able to add some solid scores, but it was Sauvarin who was causing major headaches.
The opener patiently got his way to 86, and when the 40 overs were finished, he was not out, and his side were 3/173.
Korumburra would’ve liked their chances chasing the total after Toby Gale’s 31, Dale Wyhoon’s 25, Ryan Sinclair’s 39 and captain Darren Scott’s 51*, but only Scott batted with the pace required to get the win.
In the end, the Imperials bowlers held the Cobras well enough to secure a 12-run win, keeping them to 3/161 after 40 overs.
Koony take second spot
KOONWARRA has beaten Nerrena and replaced them in second spot on the B1 ladder, after posting a strong first innings total.
The runs were available early at Nerrena Recreation Reserve with Jordan Pickersgill 54 and captain James Rushton 37 putting on an 80-run opening partnership.
Brad Anderson then added 33 to get them into a great position, but the rest of the order couldn’t carry the momentum, seeing them reach a very strong 7/186 after 40 overs.
David Baldi was able to find 20 runs at the top of the order for Nerrena and then a 53 from Paul Matheson had them right in the contest.
But Koonwarra’s bowlers soon took control, dismissing their middle and tail order cheaply enough to grab a 19-run win, bowling them out for 167 in the last over.
Bright beats Town at Meeniyan
MDU’S Jai Bright has churned out a massive score to help set up a fantastic win for his side against Leongatha Town.
The hosts batted first and there were plenty of runs to be found early, with openers Colin Knox 42 and captain Tyrone Zukovskis 32 putting on a 72-run partnership.
And once Zukovskis was gone, Bright came in ready to inflict damage and he smashed his way to 80 alongside Craig Hoober 32*.
Bright and Hoober were able to put on an unbeaten 94-run partnership, getting MDU to 2/216 after 40 overs.
Trent McRae 20 and Steve Fixter had a crack at chasing the big total, but they got nowhere near it, finishing at 8/110 after 40 overs.
Sharks suppress Stingrays
AFTER scoring a very strong first innings total at Thompson Reserve, Phillip Island did enough with the ball to score a 14-run win against Inverloch on Saturday.
Opener Daniel Bourke 46 was seeing them very well for Phillip Island at Thompson Reserve, and when Tony Hornsby more balls started going to the boundary.
Hornsby scored 70 and then with some handy cameos from Andrew Tolley 33 and Liam Dayson 21 they got to 6/191 after 40 overs.
It would’ve been a daunting task for the Stingrays, but their openers Brett Debono and Brad Phillips didn’t show any signs of stress.
Debono scored 51 and Phillips 36, and the middle order all got starts but it was Tolley who stepped up to the plate again, taking four crucial wickets.
Tolley finished with 4/14 off 3.4, helping Phillip Island bowl out Inverloch for 167 in the 38th over.

Massive total at McMahon Reserve
WONTHAGGI Club has scored one of the biggest totals all season in the LDCA and secured their spot in the B2 finals series, with multiple batters going big at McMahon Reserve.
Kevin McLean opened the account for Wonthaggi with a 130 off 100 balls, and his 95-run partnership with captain Nathan Davis 59 set the tone for the day.
Stewart Beaumont was the next batter to go big, scoring 91 not out and with Drew Herbert’s 37 off 14 balls, Club finished at 4/344 after 40 overs.
With one of the biggest one-day chases of all time on their hands, Nyora had a crack, but no batter could inflict enough damage and they were all out for 75, making Wonthaggi 269-run victors.
Keating, Insall handle Tigers
PHILLIP Island’s Jack Keating and Blake Insall did all the hard work against Foster on Saturday, with their unbeaten opening partnership getting their side a 10-wicket win.
Foster batted first at the Foster Golf Club and Tim Garvey 36 somewhat recovered the innings after a sub-par start.
Will Roffey then added a quick 24 but his comrades were in all sorts, and they were bowled out for 104.
With a very reachable goal in front of them, Keating and Insall plugged away, with Keating eventually reaching 68 and Insall 32 as they passed the Tigers in the 24th over.
Diggers get job done against KB
AFTER a brilliant team bowling performance, OMK passed Kilcunda Bass’ total to keep a minor premiership win within reach on Saturday.
OMK had the hosts in trouble early at Bass Recreation Reserve but a 29 from Steve Leman swung the momentum slightly.
However, the visiting bowlers kept asking the question and getting their desired answers, bowling out their opponents for 125 in the final over.
It was obviously a day for the bowlers, as OMK struggled early, but Brad Hayes got the innings back on track with a much needed 22.
After more wickets fell, the load was shouldered on Danny Elford 36* and Patrick Jobling 32*, and their unbroken 55-run partnership got them across the line in the 31st over.
Patullo puts Glen Alvie to the sword
A SPEEDY 86 from Poowong Loch’s Jesse Patullo paved the way for a big win for the ladder leaders against Glen Alvie on Saturday.
The first innings started nicely for the hosts, dismissing both openers reasonable cheaply but Anwar Magnusson 37 and Shannon Rozario 23 turned the tide and gave the visitors the upper hand.
And when Rozario was caught, Patullo arrived at the crease and he was swinging from the start, blasting his way to 86* and getting his side to 6/209 after 40 overs.
Wayne Luke 25, Clint Honeysett 23 and Pieter Loos 20 all had a crack at saving the game, but it was far too difficult, and they finished all out for 98 halfway through the 27th over.
