Infamous intersection to be upgraded

PEDESTRIAN safety upgrade works at the intersection of Murray Street and Biggs Drive, Wonthaggi, are underway.
Construction began this week and is expected to take around two months to complete, subject to favourable weather, contractor and supplier availability and any potential COVID-19 impacts.
The $650,000 project is being carried out as a part of Bass Coast Shire’s ‘Wonthaggi, Opportunity Unlocked’ initiative and is funded through the federal government’s Blackspot Program 2021/22 and the state government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.
As part of the project, a traffic island will be built along the centre line of Biggs Drive/Billson Street, changing the traffic movements from Murray Street to left-in/left-out only.
Street lighting at this intersection will also be improved.
During construction, road users and pedestrians can expect significant changed traffic conditions, including road closures.
Road users and pedestrians are encouraged to seek alternate routes during these periods. Some car parks on Murray Street and Biggs Drive will not be available during these works.
