Legally Blonde just the ticket in Wonthaggi

FRIDAY evening was opening night of Legally Blonde the musical presented by the Wonthaggi Theatrical Group at the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre and the streets of Wonthaggi were glowing pink.

And the production continues this weekend; on Thursday, June 9 at 7.30pm, Friday, June 10 at 7.30pm, Saturday, June 11 at 2pm and 7.30pm. Tickets still available at for all shows: https://www.trybooking.com/events/882535/sessions

Based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture starring golden globe American actress Reece Witherspoon,

Elle Woods sets off to Harvard Law school to find love but in its place finds herself.

Director Kerryn Lockhart was drawn to the show for its upbeat energy and comedy but also to the message that comes through Elle’s journey: “To thine own self be true.”

“I am passionate about live theatre,” Kerryn said.

“It’s a wonderful art form that takes immense effort to get it on stage and all coming together in a cohesive vision.”

Lead characters Elle Woods, played by Jade Dalton, and Emmett Forest, played by Zac Krause, captivated audiences with their vocals and outstanding performance.

The cast began rehearsal on January 30 and will perform 12 shows up until June 11.

Choreographer Emily Laughlan trained in numerous dance styles in Melbourne. Legally Blonde was Emily’s first show with Wonthaggi Theatrical Group. She was astounded by the energy and professionalism of the cast and crew.

Trio performers Ellen Kavanagh playing Serena, Helena Leonardos playing Margot and Cassie Pennicuik playing Pilar were engaging and enthusiastic, drawing in audiences with their dancing and singing, including the ensemble cast and their catchy song ‘Omigod You Guys.’

Ellen remembers having the best time of her life in school performances and this is Ellen’s first show with the Wonthaggi Theatrical Group.

The Legally Blonde cast were all aged 16 years and over but the Wonthaggi Theatrical Group has held a summer pantomime in the past and holds school holiday workshops for younger, passionate performers who are interested in getting involved in theatre.

President Karen Milkins-Hendry is incredibly proud of the resilience, creativity and persistence of the production team as they navigated every challenge to bring this heart-warming entertaining musical to the supportive regional community.

Enjoy Elle’s journey, brought together with an incredible cast, Louise Adkins the set designer and Miriam Clare Robinson the costume designer.
