IN the final showdown of the Mid Gippsland Netball League between Mirboo North and Toora, tensions were running high as the crowds swarmed and the players went to do battle.

At the packed Morwell East Reserve, fans gathered to see who would take out the A Grade cup.

In an absolute nail biting match, rivalling the intensity of the football, the Tigers and the Magpies went all out to come out on top.

Each quarter was tightly contested with the scoring evenly matched, however, it all came down to the final quarter.

With Mirboo North seeming like they were going to secure the win, both sides ramped up the intensity in an incredible display of skill and determination.

As the final minutes counted down, with the scores now even, the noise from the crowd was deafening.

But a sudden burst from Toora saw a hair-raising goal in the final seconds seal the deal, and it was all over.

Emotions ran high as the defeat set in for the Tigers, but for Toora, the feeling didn’t get much better.

The Sentinel-Times spoke with coach Kelsey Angwin who couldn’t contain her excitement.

“This win means so much, we’ve worked so hard to get here,” she said

“We’ve always worked as a team.”

When asked how the final decider-goal felt, Kelsey described it as being the most “magical feeling.”

“We were expecting it to be a tough match, we’ve lost twice previously (to the Tigers) and we just knew we would have to fight hard to get over the line.”
