KOONWARRA L/RSL faced off against the Kilcunda Bass Hammerheads on Sunday morning.
Winning the toss, captain Mel Gheller sent the Hammerheads in for a bat.
The girls shared the ball around as they always do, but when it came Taryn Boden’s time to bowl, she shone.
Taking 3/3 off her two overs, she took the best figures of the day closely followed by Kim Peters (2/5 off 2 overs) and Darlene Jones (1/3 off her one over).
Wonderful work from the Cougars kept the Hammerheads to a total of 83.
As the Cougars went into bat, Mel Gheller (11) and Carmen Dettmer (6) started well.
However, the team struggled to push the score too aggressively until Kathy Zacharopoulos (27) came in to finish the job. Although extras were the highest scorer (47) and the penalty runs from the
Hammerhead’s wickets (21) helped as well, the Cougars still had to make the most of the situation which they showed they could, finishing on a total of 114 with only one wicket lost via run-out.
Good to see the team is still in form after almost a month off.
The next match will be against Wonthaggi Club on November 30, out at McMahon Reserve.
Scorpions strike hard
LEONGATHA won the toss and elected to bowl, and the Scorpions made the most of the dry window before the weather moved in.
The fielding effort was outstanding from the outset, with Kath Stewart leading the charge through a standout performance – taking two wickets and pulling off a sharp run-out.
She was well supported by Alyssa Edwards and Chiara Marinou, who each picked up a wicket of their own.
Kilcunda-Bass finished on 67, with a further three runs added from a wicket during Town’s innings.
As Leongatha stepped out to bat, the weather took a turn – but the Scorps showed great resilience, with every partnership contributing valuable runs.

The innings was highlighted by strong performances from Nat Challis (41), Sarah Knox (26), Kate Oates (20) and Kath Stewart (16), helping Town reach a commanding 184.
A committed effort with both bat and ball in tricky conditions, with plenty of positives across the board for the Scorpions. Full credit to the Kilcunda-Bass Great Whites, who competed with great spirit
and intensity in the wet, fielding bravely and pushing hard right to the end despite the challenging conditions.
Luff leads Glen Alvie
GLEN Alvie recorded its first win of the season against Wonthaggi Club on Sunday.
Playing at home, Glen Alvie won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Grace Luff bowled impressively, taking three wickets early in the piece.
Ella Cargill and Lauren Sinclair were also wicket takers on the day, taking two each.
For Wonthaggi Club, vice captain Amanda Goodsell led the charge with eight runs, and captain Elizabeth Crump contributed seven.
Club made 74 runs and, with the weather threatening to turn, Glen Alvie took its turn at bat.
The partnership of Marion Bals and Grace Luff had Glen Alvie off to a good start with five and eight runs, respectively.
Gaby Hynes made nine runs and Cargill recorded 10 runs despite the downpour.
Both teams decided to play through the rain and see the game to the finish.
Imogen Beaumont was Club’s star bowler of the day, taking 1/11.
Glen Alvie made 99 at the end of their innings.
“The women’s game was a highlight for the club this week. It was a great performance and everyone is really improving. It was good to get the win,” club president David Hynes said.
