WONTHAGGI
Ladies

IT WAS great to see faces at the course as 13 pairs were playing in the qualifying round for a Golf Australia event the Doris Chambers Cup.
The winners will progress to the state final in Melbourne in October.
It was foursomes Stableford, so quite a challenging day.
The daily winners were Irene Walsh and Andrea Grenville, with a score of 30 points on countback from Catherine Bolding and Lisa Brusamarello also with 30 points.
With a twist in the story Irene and Andrea are unavailable for the final, so Catherine and Lisa will be representing Wonthaggi.
These two were the winners last year but the final was cancelled due to COVID, so good karma to them.
Only two NTP were collected, 13th Marg Johnson and 17th Catherine Bolding.
BDL were given to Marg Ryan and Anne Poulton 28, Merryn Dear and Marg Johnson 27.

LEONGATHA

TEAMS from district clubs, including Metropolitan Golf Club, competed in the annual Brian Twite Bowl played last Friday.
Due to Covid it has not been held for two years.
The event was sponsored once again by Rod and Judi Spokes of Leongatha Fresh Meat and Fish Supply.
Leongatha Golf Club are very appreciative of their continued generosity.
Brian Twite, the legendary professional from Metropolitan Golf Club, has had a long involvement with Leongatha Golf Club.
He conducted private lessons from 1979 until 1986, visiting monthly on a Sunday.
Upon leaving, Brian presented the Club with a “Rose Bowl” trophy to use as it wished.
Hence the Brian Twite Bowl was born.
Metropolitan Golf Club send a team to compete for this bowl most years and Brian, who is now 95, makes a special effort to come and present the trophies.
The Bowl was won by Leongatha with an aggregate score of 88 points.
Their team was anchored by Rebecca Thomas, who had the best A Grade score of the day, 32 points.
