IN A gripping contest that swung from end to end, MDU netballers stormed home to claim victory over Foster in their grand final clash, finishing 55–41 after a blistering final term.
The opening quarter set the tone – fast, physical, and tight on the scoreboard. Foster wrestled back the lead in the dying minutes to hold a slender 12–11 advantage at quarter time.
The second term saw both sides locked in a near goal-for-goal battle, with neither prepared to give an inch. It wasn’t until the closing stages that MDU broke away, building a six-goal buffer with defensive pressure that forced turnovers and rewarded their shooters.
The intensity lifted again in the third quarter, where MDU’s defensive wall stood tall. Foster’s frustrations showed, with a player sent from the court for two minutes following repeated warnings for dangerous play. Still, Foster clung on, keeping within striking distance heading into the last break.
But the final quarter belonged entirely to MDU, as the sun came out. Goal shooter, Alahna Arnason was unstoppable under the post, combining accuracy with composure to punish every opportunity.
Foster lifted their pace and managed to slot a few late goals between Brylee Angwin and Ella Rendell, but MDU’s relentless drive and earlier lead meant, with continued determination, Foster was behind on the chase.

Coach Jasmin Friend was full of praise for her side’s effort across the finals series.
“We’ve had a great time in the finals. Thank you to the umpires – we’ve had great umpiring throughout.
“There’s not a lot I can say that the girls haven’t said on the court over the finals series… You are amazing, and I think you girls have earned it this year. It’s a pleasure to coach you.”
“A big thank you to MDU’s supporters for all the support you have given throughout the finals series,” Darlene Jones and Jasmin Friend added after the match.
Whilst Foster’s seniors had a win, it wasn’t Foster’s day on the courts, losing both B and A grade in close matches.
