High praise for 'Floss' Leongatha's golden girl

Gippsland South MP Danny O'Brien has added his congratulations to the community wide praise for Leongatha's golden girl, Eleanor Patterson after her stunning victory at the Athletics World Championships in Eugene, Oregon USA.

Having followed her career since she was a junior, Mr O'Brien said Eleanor's latest success was just reward for effort.

“Eleanor has carried herself with such dignity through the ups and downs of her career and this win is just reward for all of her work," said Mr O'Brien.

“We are super proud of her perseverance and great dedication that has delivered an amazing win.”

"What a huge effort from Leongatha’s amazing athlete Eleanor Patterson to win the high jump gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in the US!

"Eleanor jumped a personal best of 2.02 metres, equaling the Australian record and becoming our first high jump world champs medalist and just the 10th Aussie ever to win a track and field gold.

"After the disappointment of the Rio Olympics, to finishing 5th in Tokyo and now a world champion! Congratulations from all of us," Mr O'Brien said.
