Inverloch reign supreme in Alambee, Mirboo and District grand final
Westernport’s Luke Nicholson played strongly for his team but Inverloch came through in the mixed doubles sets to win the final.

A GREAT atmosphere was the highlight of the 2022/2023 season grand finals in both sections and for all supporters.

Section 1: Inverloch v Westernport

Inverloch ladies have played together for a number of years and used this experience to help their team toward a win over Westernport.

The Westernport men played well and won two of their sets. With just a two game advantage to Inverloch going into the mixed, it was still anyone’s match.

All three mixed sets were played at once so no one had the pressure of how many games they needed to secure a win for their team. Inverloch came away six game winners.

Section 2: Outtrim v Baromi

With all scores level going into the mixed, Outtrim or Baromi could have walked away with the winner’s trophy. Like in Section 1, all the mixed sets were played at the same time. Outtrim won all three mixed sets and the match by seven games. All sets throughout the day were competitive, especially first mixed who had to play a tiebreaker – Baromi fighting back from 6/2 down. Well done to Matt

Fraser who played in his first senior tennis grand final after playing (and winning) the Junior final that same morning.

The Presentation Night followed the Grand Final at Brent Sinclair’s Space47 in Leongatha which proved to be a well set up venue for the night. The food was enjoyed by all who came along. All teams were represented, which was great to see.

Part of every Presentation Night is the awarding of the coveted Most Games Won for each section. It was a particularly special moment for Score Secretary Mary Jepson. Mary won the award back when it was for most sets won. Susan Clark, Mary’s daughter, has won a few of these over the years, and this time it was Mary’s granddaughter Nicole de Longville who won Section 2 Ladies.

All the winners were:

Section 1 Ladies: Bronwyn Williams

Section 1 Men: Connor Krohn

Section 2 Ladies: Nicole de Longville

Section 2 Men: Martin Nicholas

What a way to cap off a season that has been well enjoyed by all players. We have seen some juniors coming through in both sections – let’s hope that we can continue recruiting some during the off season to help the future of our Association.

The Koonwarra Tennis Club have done a fabulous job to ensure a successful year, so thank-you to them.
