The President and Members of the Rotary Club of Wonthaggi would like to invite you to attend the celebration of Australia Day at the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre in Graham Street, Wonthaggi, on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

Over the past few years our nation has faced many challenges including fire, floods, drought and the continuing coronavirus pandemic. Australia Day 2023 provides us with an opportunity to reflect on these challenges, respect those who have put others before themselves and celebrate our nation’s resilience and unity.

Australia Day remains a fun day of celebration of all the good things that make this nation the best in the World. It is also a very appropriate time to acknowledge and thank the many fine dedicated and passionate people and organisations in our own community who have contributed so well to making a difference to the lives of others and make this an even better place to live.

Significantly the Rotary Club of Wonthaggi began the celebration of Australia Day here in Wonthaggi nearly 30 years ago and has enjoyed doing so ever since. It is an event we are certainly proud to host.
We are very excited about this year’s program especially with former Bass Coast Shire Young Citizen of the Year and AFL Premiership player Jarryd Blair speaking as the Wonthaggi Rotary Australia Day Ambassador.

As usual there is an impressive list of wonderful people and organisations who will be presented with community service recognition awards, always a highlight.
This year we are encouraging former award winners and their families and friends to attend also to reconnect after a couple of challenging years for the community.

The Australia Day celebrations get under way at 7.30am with a planned breakfast outside the Arts Centre and at around 9am the formal program will commence.
The program will start with a short Australia Day address by our special Australia Day Ambassador, followed by some entertainment and the presentation of our special community awards.

We anticipate that the proceedings will be completed by around 11am so you can continue to enjoy the rest of the Australia Day celebrations.
We look forward to seeing you there. A summary of the awards will be provided before the event. For further information contact johnr.duscher@gmail.com
