KILCUNDA-Bass played a strong game and claimed a win over Wonthaggi Club at the Bass Recreation Reserve.
Club won the toss and elected to bat.
A steady innings resulted in the top scores coming from Jack Sheerin and Luke McGuirk with 20 and 29 runs respectively.
Kilcunda-Bass bowler Todd Smith removed opening batsman David Britt early and went on to finish off the innings with three more wickets, including a golden duck.
Club went into Kilcunda-Bass’ innings ready to defend 10/127 but were in for a challenge.
Home-side batsmen Aaron Conron and Matthew Grayson had a successful partnership, with Conron leading the charge to make 54 runs off 69 balls before he was caught by Jai Williamson.
Grayson contributed 29 runs and was not out at the end of the innings.
Luke Anstey was Club’s top bowler for the day, taking 2/18, including dismissing captain Jaydan Tregear for a duck after facing two balls.
Kilcunda-Bass’ winning total was 3/129.
Foster rises to the top
FOSTER triumphed over Nerrena during Saturday’s match at the Foster Cricket Ground.
Nerrena won the toss and sent Foster out to bat first.
Opening batsman Jack Gay immediately set the pace of the match, contributing 42 runs before he was caught by Caine Salmon.
Nerrena was sitting on 4/105 before Gay was dismissed.
Ben East continued to uphold a standard for Foster, making 52 not out off 42 balls.
Nerrena bowler Damien Symmons made Foster work for it, claiming 3/10.
Nerrena went into its innings with the target of 7/190 in its sights.
However, a quiet innings from Nerrena allowed Foster to retain its place at the top of the table.
Kade Berryman and Symmons kept Nerrena competitive, making 36 and 33 runs respectively.
Brad Coates claimed 3/21, defending Foster’s score.
Nerrena ended the day with 7/135.




Cougars secure the victory
KOONWARRA/LRSL rose to the occasion and outplayed MDU on Saturday.
MDU captain Joel Sinclair held firm to make 31 runs, as Mitch McGrath and Matt Olden were sent back to the bench in quick succession.
Paul LePage entered the field with MDU sitting on a score of 2/6 and kept the side in the game.
LePage managed to contribute 64 runs before he was bowled by Nick Arnup.
Arnup was Koonwarra/LRSL’s star bowler for the day, taking 2/23.
MDU had the task of defending 7/144 going into Koonwarra/LRSL’s innings.
A solid innings from Amad Mujtaba and Isuru Darshana – who made 32 and 41 respectively – secured the game for the Cougars.
Jake Palmer attempted to sabotage the Cougars, taking 3/38, but the only other wicket was taken by Mitchell Hoober.
Koonwarra/LRSL won the day with 4/147 off 22 overs.
Nyora outlast Glen Alvie
GLEN Alvie played a consistent innings but could not overcome Nyora.
Nyora chose to bowl after the toss and Glen Alvie’s opening batsman Matthew Donohue gave his team a comfortable start.
Donohue made 39 runs before a catch from Jake Henry sent him off the field.
Captain Stephen Kennedy had Glen Alvie back on course later in the innings when he made 44 runs.
He later retired, not out.
Wickets were shared amongst Nyora bowlers Aaron Kaddatz, Mitch Rowe, Aaron Thompson and Lochie Row.
Glen Alvie made a comfortable 4/145, but soon found it had a lot of work ahead.
Nyora captain Henry Dolphin stormed in to add 41 runs to the account, supported by fellow opening batsman Daniel Esler with 23 runs.
Glen Alvie vice captain claimed 2/24, dismissing Esler and Gavin Hackett before they could do too much damage.
However, Kaddatz pushed Nyora to the finish line with another 44 runs and was not out at the end of the innings.
Nyora claimed the match with 5/151.
