WOMEN’S CRICKET

IT WAS an absolute delight for Leongatha Town and Wonthaggi Club’s women’s teams to take to the pitch with Wonthaggi on Sunday – full of encouragement, plenty of banter, and a great buzz all round.

Nat Challis and Kylie Ashton opened the batting for Town, with Nat smashing an impressive 43 runs, including a string of boundaries – one reportedly landing somewhere near Cape
Paterson. Strong support came from Kate Oates (17) and Sarah Knox (10), helping Town build a solid innings.

With the ball, Sarah Knox was on fire, taking three wickets in her three overs, while Chiara Marinou claimed two, and Brenda Stewart chipped in with another.

There was sharp work in the field too, with Nat Challis, Kate Oates, and others snapping up quick catches.

In a show of spirit, Gen Anderson padded up to bat for Wonthaggi, and several Town players stepped in to help them out in the field.

Both teams gave it their all – uplifting one another with encouragement, laughter, and a few handy pointers along the way. Leongatha Town 150 (132 runs, 6 wickets) v Wonthaggi Club 77 (74 runs, 1 wicket)
