KILCUNDA Bass cricketer Millie Gold continued to excel in her sport as she represented Victoria in the Junior Girls Strike League recently.
The 15-year-old has been playing cricket for a year and described her experience playing against the Northern Territory as ‘amazing’.
“It was good to meet new people and experience a different place all while playing a great sport,” Millie said.
Millie is an all-rounder out on the field, but bowling is her strength.
Her best game was the first game of the series – a T20 match in which she dismissed the Northern Territory’s third bat LBW.
It was a performance she was proud to deliver.
Victoria won the series after winning four of the five games played.
The games were played at the Northern Territory’s Cazalys Arena and DXC Arena from July 7 to July 11.
“I had never done anything like this before, and it was a really good opportunity. I learned some great bowling and batting strategies, and had a lot of support,” Millie said.
Millie said she enjoys playing cricket because of the people around her.
“It’s not like other team sports. There’s more of a relaxed vibe and you can connect with people differently,” she said.
Last season, Millie played in the U15, women’s and C Grade teams for Kilcunda Bass Cricket Club.
“It went pretty well. Everyone was very kind and supportive, and I received the coaches award for the women’s team,” she said.
Millie will be looking to play in the women’s side and in C Grade again in the 2025/26 season, after she recovers from an injury.
Looking into the future, Millie is determined to pursue a career in cricket and one day play for the Melbourne Renegades.
“I’ll be doing some personal coaching, training hard and taking every opportunity as it comes along,” she said.
