IF coming up against the top team wasn’t enough of a challenge, Nyora went into the round 16 match against Neerim South with 12 outs on Saturday.
Playing at the Nyora Recreation Reserve in sunny conditions, Nyora knew it had a battle ahead and ultimately came away from the game happy with its efforts despite the scoreline.
Neerim South had the opportunity to blow out the score in the first quarter but instead recorded 11 behinds.
This came down to Nyora’s backline pressure, which forced Neerim South to take marks from the boundary.
Lewis Kennedy and Liam Simpson worked well in the defence, leading the backline to defend the dangerous points of the field.
Neerim South got on top of Nyora in the second quarter.
Nyora’s midfield held up well with Dylan Heylen and Lucas Lee working hard all day, but Neerim South had more control of the ball and more inside 50s.
Nyora regrouped at halftime and managed to put two more goals on the scoreboard in the third quarter.




All three of Nyora’s goals were kicked by midfielder Aaron Coggins, who performed exceptionally well all game.
By the fourth quarter, Nyora’s fitness began to give out and Neerim South dominated, kicking eight goals in the last 10 minutes to push the score out to a 145-point win.
Next week, Nyora will be playing Catani at Catani.
The last time Nyora met Catani, it lost by 29-points.
With the challenge of facing second-placed Longwarry in the last game of the season, Nyora is hoping to record one more win for the year in round 17.
Although it will be a challenge, Nyora is hopeful that it can bring a competitive performance against the Blues.
Nyora is also hoping to have a few more players back on the ground next week.
