Phillip Island secured its place at the top of the ladder with a win over third placed OMK.
Phillip Island went into bat first, and the dismissal of opening batsman Lachlan Cleeland at 1/2 saw the entry of Daniel Mock.
Mock took control of the innings, batting 66 off 77 balls before he was bowled LBW by Jake Cochrane.
Cochrane put the pressure on Phillip Island, bowling 3/22.
Batsman Shiran Rathnayake contributed 46 runs to the account, putting Phillip Island in a comfortable position at 5/154 before he was also bowled by Cochrane.
Phillip Island went into OMK’s innings looking to defend 8/190.
OMK’s opening partnership of Cochrane and Ethan Lamers had Phillip Island on the ropes, combining well to produce 46 and 41 runs respectively.
Cochrane was bowled by Rathnayake and Lamers was bowled by Max Royal.
Phillip Island bowler Zac Brown dominated the rest of the innings, claiming 4/28 and dismissing the middle of OMK’s line up.
Multiple wickets were also taken by Royal and Rathnayake to keep Phillip Island out in front.
OMK finished the innings at 10/178.
Nerrena outclasses Korumburra
Korumburra was unable to match the unstoppable force of Nerrena.
Nerrena made the decision to bat first and went on to put on an intimidating performance.
Jarrod Hoy and Tim Wightman secured the win for the Red Caps, making 52 and 53 runs respectively.
Tom Crocker put an end to Wightman’s reign at 4/158 and Jacob Whiteside managed to send Hoy back to the bench at 5/160.
Whiteside and Hemal Ratnayake were multiple wicket takers for Korumburra.
The standard was set at 5/193, and Nerrena was more than ready to defend its tally.
A slow innings for Korumburra finally resulted in a top score of 25 from Ratnayake.
Josh Trease wouldn’t allow Korumburra to get a look in, taking an impressive 5/28.
Darcy Berryman also pressured Korumburra into conceding defeat, taking 2/15.
Nerrena claimed the victory as Korumburra finished the day with 10/81.




Town partnership too much for Inverloch
LEONGATHA Town launched a relentless campaign against Inverloch on Saturday to take a convincing win.
Town’s partnership of Ron Abeysinghe and Amila Ratnaike would prove to be unbeatable.
Inverloch won the toss and went into bat first.
A steady start resulted in third batsman Andrew Donohue making 38 off 85 balls, which would prove to be the top score for the Stingrays.
Donohue was runout by Pamuditha Geemal Rajapakshage.
Jack Donohue contributed 27 runs to the tally before he was caught by Jesse Giardina.
Rajapakshage contained Inverloch’s score by taking 3/19.
Inverloch finished its innings with 8/123.
Abeysinghe and Ratnaike dominated the scorecard with 89 and 26 runs not out respectively.
Harry Butcher managed to dismiss Darcy Hume, taking 1/28, and was Inverloch’s only wicket taker.
Town’s commanding win was claimed in 25.2 overs with a score of 1/124.
Imperials hold on to the win
THE Imperials battled it out to defeat Wonthaggi Club.
Club went into bat first and the runs trickled in with Alex Geyer top scoring with 30 off 28 balls.
Mitch Thomas and Ryan Thomas offered a further 22 and 21 runs respectively.
Lachie Wright kept the score in check by taking 3/10.
Tim Sauvarin was also a multiple wicket taker.
Club went into the changeover at 10/117.
Imperials opening batsman Luke Rogers set the pace and top scored with 35 runs before he was caught by Harry West with the score sitting at 4/80.
Mark Lafferty contributed 25 runs to the steady innings.
Ryan Thomas did what he could to slow the Imperials, taking 3/39.
Ryan Birkett also performed well, taking 2/33.
However, it wasn’t enough to defend their score, and the Imperials ended the day with 7/121.
