POOWONG Under 16s travelled to Lang Lang to meet Trafalgar in the Preliminary Final, the winner to play Bunyip in the Grand Final on Saturday at Trafalgar, a competitive affair ending in a 14-point Poowong victory.

The Magpies started well, kicking two goals to Trafalgar’s single major to lead by seven points at quarter time.

The second quarter Poowong was working hard and added four goals to open the game up, Trafalgar kicked two majors for the term to trail by 15 points at halftime.

Poowong 6.4.40 to Trafalgar 3.7.25

Poowong’s Lachie Moriarty, Daniel Waide and Kade Zealley were playing well, helping to put the Magpies in a strong position to make the Grand Final.

The third term was played between defences, with the sides kicking a goal apiece, Poowong taking a 17-point lead into the last quarter of the Preliminary Final.

In the final stanza, Trafalgar came out determined to turn the deficit around, but Poowong’s defence held up and denied the Bloods a spot in the Grand Final.

It is a great effort by the Poowong boys to make the Grand Final, and there is a lot of talent there.

Congratulations to Mitch van’t Hof in coaching the boys this season and reaching the Grand Final.

Playing in a Grand Final is something you will always remember and a win is even better.

Get on top early and you will go a long way towards achieving that.

All the best boys; the club and supporters are behind you, do yourself proud on Saturday and enjoy the experience.

The U15 girls will also be taking to the court in the Grand Finals this weekend – good luck!
