IT was raining goals by reigning Mid Gippsland premier Fish Creek on Saturday, when the Kangaroos thumped Mirboo North by 128 points, in glorious autumn sunshine at Fish Creek.
However, unlike the previous evening when Sydney gave Carlton a near five-goal start — before defeating the Blues by 52 points — a far less generous Fish Creek allowed Mirboo North only two majors relatively late in the match.
The first of these came during time-on in the third term from gallant giant ruckman, Patrick Lewis, after which, William Jacka found the wide opening of the big white sticks, early in the final quarter.
Mirboo North made nine changes to the side that lost to Newborough by 99 points the week before at Tigerland.
These included the selection of Todd Alexander, William Lewis and Harrison Reville-Gent, each of whom was making his first senior appearance for the mighty Mirboo North Tigers.
Fish Creek’s overall dominance was so supreme, it may have been easier for Mirboo North to roller skate in a buffalo herd, than tackle the Kangaroos’ powerful running machine of pacy onballers and classy key position big men.
Some of the Kangaroos’ supply chain link-ups had to be seen to be believed, with rapid-fire hand passing a constant feature of their incessant speed-orientated game plan execution.
With little or no movement inside Mirboo North’s attacking 50 for much of the contest, its forwards sometimes resembled ‘statues of severe limitations’.
Match winners in Fish Creek’s decisive victory were Pat Pekin, Harrison Smith, Lachlan Gale and Darcy Berryman, who booted five goals.
Best players for Mirboo North were Harry Mahoney, Joe Brooks, Ethan Woodall and Riley Oddy.
Other trojans who stuck to their tasks with Yeoman’s work for the Tigers included Taj Wilkins, Patrick Lewis, playing coach Damien Turner and Hayden Barnes.
This Saturday, Mirboo North hosts Yinnar at Tigerland.
