A squad of 33 SGB swimmers had the honour of representing Gippsland in the Country Junior District Competition at MSAC on Saturday against swimmers from the rest of regional Victoria.
The 87 Gippsland swimmers aged eight to 11 took to the pool in all four strokes over 50 metres, and many SGB swimmers were part of the relay teams as well.
For many SGB swimmers, this was their first chance to race at MSAC and they relished the chance to race at the same centre that the 16TH FINA World Swimming Championships will be held at next month.
The top eight Gippsland swimmers in each stroke were selected for the team, so to have so many SGB swimmers represent was an impressive achievement.
The strength of Gippsland’s swimming showed on the day, with the red caps of Gippsland featuring strongly among the places and the relay teams really dominating and finishing top 3 in each race.
Gippsland won the overall day with the most points earned.
SGB coaches Caiden Gill and Lorri Mackenzie also had the honour of coaching the Gippsland team, a well-deserved recognition for their efforts and the SGB kids loved having a familiar face.
The SGB swimmers wore their Gippsland caps and shirts with pride and there were many PB's on the day, as well as country times achieved by some of the older swimmers.
