Swim meet shows off local talent

SMILES were plentiful in the pool at Warragul as the South Gippsland Bass (SGB) swimmers raced in one of the last local swim meets of the season.

For the younger swimmers, they could see their progression over the last few months and they were so proud of their new times.

As the meet was a twilight event, swimmers could play another sport in the morning and then come and race.

For many of the more experienced swimmers, it was a chance to try and get one more qualifying time and swim for the Victorian Country  Short Course Championships and Victorian State Short Course

Championships coming up in August, and you could tell by the excited cheers when a time was achieved.

For a some they achieved their first ever country time, which is a very exciting event.

For older swimmers, some were trying to get the few milliseconds off to qualify them for these prestigious events.

SGB is sending one of their largest teams ever to the championships.

It is a real team effort to get the swimmers to the championships, with fellow teammates cheering them on, pushing them to swim their best in races and keeping them relaxed in-between.

It was also a chance for the under 8s who take part in the development squad to try their hand at racing, with them able to compete in 25m races, so they could get used to starting and racing.
