WONTHAGGI Club has held on for a narrow win against OMK, defeating the Diggers by 11 runs at McMahon Reserve.

Kevin McLean 22 and Paul Cornelis 27 got Club’s innings off to a nice start, but only Beau Hull 20 could add a significant total after McLean and Cornelis, and they were all out for 133.

Matthew Whiteside did most of the damage with the ball for the Diggers, taking 4/29.

George Lomagno 32 and Luke Walker 35 put on a 61-run opening partnership to put OMK in a commanding position, but Club’s bowlers turned it around.

They shared the load evenly as the wickets fell and slowed OMK’s run rate to the point where they couldn’t score enough off the final over and fell 11 runs short.

Buckley bowls Cougars to comfortable win

KOONWARRA L/RSL’s Paris Buckley has bowled the Cougars to an easy win over MDU, taking four wickets in the first innings.

MDU batted first at Dumbalk Recreation Reserve and after Brodie Cary took 3/15, up stepped Buckley who cleaned up nearly everyone else, taking 4/10 off 5.2 overs.

MDU were soon all out for 60 in 24.2 overs, and despite some early wickets falling in Koonwarra’s innings Mitchell Scrimshaw 31* saw them over the line in the 19th over, winning by seven wickets.

Cobras blast past Stingrays

KORUMBURRA has earnt a solid win over Inverloch, chasing down a modest total with a couple of overs to go.

Captain and opener Warren Stewart had Inverloch’s innings off to a great beginning, making 47 runs, but there wasn’t much more support and their 35 overs finished with them at 6/117.

Korumburra started their innings well, with Matt Patten 28, and Noah Christensen 24 seeing off the cagey bowling from the Stingrays.

And then captain Tim Morrison arrived at the crease, smashing 36 off 33 balls to make sure his side secured a six-wicket victory in the final few overs.

KB come back to knock off Town

KILCUNDA Bass has chased down Leongatha Town’s strong total in a thrilling contest at Newhaven Recreation Reserve.

John Pouw 60 was proving to be a dominant force with the bat for Town in the first innings, and Michael Warren 36* was patiently batting along side him.

After Pouw was gone, Will Dawson added a quick 36 runs, getting Town to 5/167 after 35 overs.

After an early wicket fell, Gavin Koch 52 steadied the ship and got the Sharks back on track.

Praneeth Panduka added a handy 28 but it was the unbeaten 58 of Zac Crow that got KB over the line, passing Town just five wickets down with 10 balls remaining.

Blue rings true in Cougar clash

KOONWARRA L/RSL Blue has won their match against in-club counterparts, Koonwarra L/RSL Gold, hanging on by just 13 runs at the Leongatha Velodrome.

In Blue’s innings, Kylie Collins 34 and Kathy Zacharopoulos 32 had obviously been paying attention in the nets as the put on plenty of runs against their friendly foes.

But the middle order struggled, and if it weren’t for Blake Smith’s 20, Blue would’ve struggled to reach their total of 118 before being bowled out.

Gold captain Dylan Hanily 36 started his side’s innings well, but the Blue bowlers soon regained control taking wickets in clumps and restricting Gold to 8/105 at the end of the match.

Manning the man for PI

PHILLIP Island Blue’s John Manning has scored a century in their big win over Glen Alvie at the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve.

Phillip Island Blue batted first after winning the toss and Manning had his eye in early, blasting boundaries all over the oval.

Peter Francis 64 soon joined him and the two put on a 171-run partnership to crush Glen Alvie’s hopes of an upset win.

Alex Duyker 27* also added some quick runs towards the end of the innings and they finished at 5/245.

With an extremely daunting task ahead of them, Glen Alvie’s batters couldn’t quite hit their straps the way they would’ve been hoping, and Phillip Island got them all out for 73 in the 25th over.
