THE Breakers started slowly, taking a little while to adjust to playing on the ‘chip’. Red Hill scored the first goal, but after that, the contest evened up.

A late goal came for the Breakers from a ruck clearance from Ellen Williams to Jenna Russo, who found Ella Cargill in the goal square. A pack mark from Cloe Booth stopped an attempt from Red Hill in the dying seconds of the quarter, leaving it one goal apiece at quarter time.

The Breakers had most of the play in the second quarter. A contested mark and long goal from Tess Angarane gave them the lead for the first time in the match.

When Red Hill did go forward, Brooke McKean didn’t let it advance past half back.

Adjustments at halftime saw the Breakers get on top around the stoppages and create more run-off half back. Good decisions across the field resulted in a brilliant goal by Jenna Russo from the pocket.

Through the middle, Grace Hope was giving a good contest with Ellen Williams getting in a great position to mark both offensively and defensively.

The Breakers maintained the high work rate in the last quarter, evidenced by a great run-down tackle by Immy Bradford and a mark by Molly Conroy, running back.

There were some great linkages, including a passage from Carly Heislers to Immy Bradford and then Tess Angarane leading to her second goal.

Final score: Breakers 4.6-30 def Red Hill 1.7-13

Goals: Tess Angarane 2, Ella Cargill, Jenna Russo

Best: Molly Conroy, Ellen Williams, Brooke McKean, Tess Angarane, and Immy Bradford.

The Breakers host their fourth Annual Pride Round, taking on Tyabb this Friday, 7pm at Dalyston. Bigger and more colourful than ever, the team are excited to unveil their new Pride Jumpers.
