• A Grade, Division 2
Koonwarra L/RSL v Nyora
THE LDCA’s second A grade division also got underway on the weekend with a number of dominant showings across the four games, including an impressive 18-run win to Nyora on the road in Koonwarra.
The Cougars won the toss and sent their opponents in to bat first and although they lost wickets with some regularity throughout their innings, the visitors were able to pass the double century mark.
Nyora finished their 40 overs with 202 runs on the board, losing eight wickets along the way, getting strong contributions from Aaron Kaddatz (68 from 55) and Jake Hackett (35 from 54).
Azhar Mehmood (3/36 from 6) was excellent with the ball.
In reply, the hosts got off to a shaky start, when 1/4 turned into 2/28, before an innings reviving 68-run stand between Mehmood (49 from 57) and his skipper James Rushton (36 from 54) got them back on track.
Unfortunately for Koony’ though, they didn’t get enough contributors down the order as the visitors kept the heat on, seeing the Cougars finish 18-runs short at 9/184.
Kaddatz (2/31 from 8) was easily best on, performing with bat and ball.
Foster v Kilcunda-Bass
FOSTER has completed a resounding win to open their season, easily taking care of Kilcunda Bass on Saturday to the tune of 79-runs.
The Tigers won the toss and elected to bat first, seeing several of their top order players get solid starts at the crease, they just couldn’t seem to stay around long enough, eventually losing all ten wickets for 135.
It was a brilliant bowling performance from the visitors, led by their skipper Jaydan Tregear (4/27 from 6), setting up a relatively basic 136 run chase for victory.
It wasn’t to be though, thanks to a spirited bowling effort from the hosts skittling the Sharks for just 56, with Tregear (10) the only one to hit double figures.
Josh Toner (29 off 82 & 3/2 from four overs) was sensational all round in the win.
Glen Alvie v MDU
GLEN Alvie were on the wrong end of a dominant showing themselves as the travelling MDU got the better of them on the back of a tremendous batting display which sealed the eight-wicket win.
The hosts won the toss and chose to bat first, and it was all Matthew Donohue (55* off 119) batting throughout his side’s entire innings and posting a crucial half century without much support from his teammates outside of Nathan Findlay (23 off 23).
Mark Cantwell (2/17 from 6) was superb with the ball as was his side with the bat in reply, losing just two wickets en route to surpassing the 136-run target with 16 overs to spare!
The Dees’ skipper Joel Sinclair (71* from 72) led from the front with an unbeaten half century in the win.
Nerrena v Wonthaggi
NERRENA and Wonthaggi took part in a rare nailbiter in the A2 division’s weekend matches, resulting in a narrow two run win to Nerrena.
