KOONWARRA/LRSL is aiming to hold its ground right through the 2024/25 season.
The A2 side claimed a premiership win over Glen Alvie and has moved into A1.
“We started off very slow to the season. We won two games before Christmas and didn’t lose a game from there. We went all the way through and won it,” club president Nick Arnup said.
“We’re back in A1. We haven’t been there for a couple of seasons, so it will be good for them to hold on to it, and try to get off the bottom and stay in there for a couple of years.
“We all want to try and get out Bs back into B1.”
Koonwarra/LRSL will be fielding A1, B2 and C1 this year and James Rushton is once again the A Grade captain/coach.
The women’s side is also looking strong with most of last season’s side returning to play again.
“They got into the grand final last year and lost by a run. It was good to see them play a good competitive match against Inverloch and it’s great that we will have pretty much the same side again this season,” Arnup said.
In the junior program, the club will be fielding U15s. U13s and U11s.
The club will also run a Woolies Blast program, which has been running for a few years now and usually attracts around 16 participants.
The committee has remained the same with Will Cashin the only new addition, and the committee will organise the club’s social events for the year based on the fixture.
Around the grounds, the club is refurbishing its cricket nets and has received a South Gippsland Shire Council grant for irrigation works.
There are plans in the pipeline for the new clubrooms and the club hopes to see these plans come to fruition in the next three years.
