Bowring leads the Stingrays’ charge

B Grade, Division 1

JOHN Bowring ensured Inverloch posted a competitive score despite the onslaught from MDU’s bowlers on Saturday.

MDU won the toss and chose to send the away team into bat first.

Opening batsman and captain Brett Debono had the Stingrays off to a good start with 29 runs.

However, the bowling finesse of Zak Bright and Tyrone Zukovskis saw Inverloch struggling to put runs on the board.

Bright and Zukovskis claimed 3/39 and 3/38 respectively.

Coming in at number eight, Bowring steered the ship in the right direction and made 73 not out.

Inverloch closed its innings with 10/177. MDU will challenge the total this weekend. 

OMK challenge Town

OMK is eying off Leongatha Town’s total in the wake of Saturday’s match.

Playing at home, OMK won the toss and chose to bowl.

Town suffered a slow start to the innings, gradually gaining momentum.

Noah Fixter top scored with 38 runs.

Twenty-two runs were added by Fletcher McLennan.

OMK bowler Barry Wyatt was relentless, claiming 5/33.

Other wickets were shared between four OMK bowlers.

Town was bowled out with a score of 10/128.

OMK batted 15 overs and made a total of 2/36.

Opening batsman Luke Jones made 27 not out.

Town bowler Levi Hickey ensured to keep the pressure on the Diggers, taking 2/21. OMK’s innings will continue this Saturday.

Team effort for Koony 

KOONWARRA L/RSL played a consistent innings against Korumburra.

A team effort resulted in a score of 8/196 for the Cougars.

Korumburra had won the toss and chose to send the Cougars into bat first.

The opening partnership of Anthony Hunt and William Cashin combined well, producing 36 and 31 runs respectively.

Louis Read and captain Brad Anderson later contributed 27 runs each.

Adam Drury finished it off with 35 not out.

For Korumburra, Bryce Riddell was the top bowler, claiming 3/32.

Scott Head was also a multiple wicket taker. Korumburra will play out its innings this Saturday.

Imps struggle against frontrunner

THE Imperial played a modest innings against ladder leader Phillip Island.

Phillip Island won the toss and sent the Imps into bat first.

Klayton McGrath top scored with 25 runs, with Campbell Reid posting 18 runs.

Phillip Island’s star bowler was Kurt Lane, who claimed 3/8.

Bowlers Jobe Williams, Heath Womersley and Max Arceo each took two wickets.

The Imps were bowled out 10/90.

Phillip Island opened its account and faced 15 overs.

Arceo was dismissed with five runs after Martin Reidy claimed his wicket.

Womersley and Henry Peppard made seven and nine runs respectively and were not out at stumps. Phillip Island will continue its run on Saturday.

B Grade, Division 2

Sharks put up a contest 

A FAIRLY consistent innings resulted in a handy score for Kilcunda-Bass in its two-day match against Glen Alvie.

Playing at the Bass Recreation Reserve, the home side won the toss and chose to bat.

The opening partnership of Brett Joseph and captain Bradley Waldron provided a confident start to the innings, producing 20 and 24 runs respectively.

The runs continued ticking over with Robert Blackney (33 runs), Steven Oates (38 runs) and James Mahood (35 runs).

Kilcunda-Bass finished off its innings on a nice note as Allan Bedford top scored with 53 not out.

Glen Alvie kept things competitive with bowlers Lachlan McRae and Darcy Hale claiming 2/33 and 2/32.

Kilcunda-Bass played out its allotted 70 overs, resulting in a score of 7/253.

Glen Alvie will bat this Saturday.

Phillip Island clash with Nerrena 

PHILLIP Island produced a competitive score in the battle between second and third on Saturday.

Coming up against Nerrena, the Sharks won the toss and chose to set the pace of the game.

Sarith Angelo opened well, scoring 29 runs.

Coming in at number four, David Womersley made a statement to Nerrena, top scoring with 82 runs before a catch from Jack Donohue saw him dismissed.

It wasn’t over, with Andrew Tolley coming in at number seven and hitting 71 runs.

Eamon Berryman was Nerrena’s top bowler, claiming 3/29.

Cameron Baudinette, Scott Checkley and Roy Checkley were also multiple wicket takers.

Phillip Island ended the day bowled out 10/252, with Nerrena ready to play its innings this weekend.

Cobras take on Club 

KORUMBURRA travelled to Wonthaggi to face Club on Saturday.

The Cobras were the first to bat and Paul Dixon top scored with 61 runs.

Noah Belvedere contributed 45 runs to the tally.

For Club, Scott Williams was the standout bowler, putting the pressure on the Cobras and taking 5/25.

Alan Babu also performed well, claiming 3/45. 

After 65 overs, Korumburra was bowled out 10/194. Club is set to bat this weekend.

Foster forfeited its two-day match against OMK.
