CARLY HEISLERS’ dedication to the Bass Coast Breakers has been acknowledged as part of the ‘Legend of the Tongs’ initiative run by Bunnings in partnership with the AFL, recognising her enthusiasm behind the barbecue.

Impressively, she takes on that responsibility just after representing the Breakers onfield.

“Carly came straight off the field after a big win, and while being dressed up for the after-match function, she was committed to cooking sausages for the entire team,” a spokesperson for the Breakers said. “Carly always puts her hand up to cook the BBQ (despite not liking sausages).”

Legend of the Tongs is a nationwide search to reward and celebrate the local legends who fire up the barbecue weekly at their local Aussie rules footy clubs. Started in 2018 as a female-only club, the Breakers have one team and are run by the players, with Carly representing the side since its inception, one of her favourite memories being the club’s premiership in just its second season.

As part of the reward for her wizardry with the tongs, Bass Coast Breakers will receive a barbecue prize pack, including a Jumbuck six-burner barbecue and a Bunnings pop-up marquee.

Carly is in the running to score attendance for two at the AFL Grand Final as well as the opportunity to be named ‘Legend of the Golden Tongs’ and win $25,000 in Bunnings products and materials for her club.

Bunnings Wonthaggi Complex Manager, Paul Farmer is proud the store can give back to local clubs, with the support of the AFL.

“Whether it’s at their local club grounds or as part of our weekly sausage sizzles, unsung heroes like Carly tirelessly show up week in and week out to support their players and raise much needed funds for their clubs,” he said. “We feel privileged to be able to gift the Bass Coast Breakers with improved equipment to support their volunteers where it matters.”

As part of the overall campaign, five weekly ‘legends’ and their local club will win a barbecue prize pack.
