THE Bass Coast Breakers took to the field with nine new players, which brought a lot of excitement and a little bit of uncertainty, however it didn’t take long for the team to get going, the side ultimately prevailing by 22 points over Karingal.

After taking a strong mark, Ella Cargill centred the ball quickly to find Tess Angarane in the goal square, giving the Breakers a rapid first goal.

Shortly after, Jenna Russo found some space and snapped a banana from the pocket to keep the first-quarter momentum going for the home side.

The Breakers continued to do most of the attacking with the visitors having a hard time getting the ball past Katie Cornish across half back.

Cargill, who proved to be lively in the forward line all match, got her opportunity and kicked truly.

Taking a three goal lead into half time, the Breakers knew they still had a lot of work to do.

Carly Heislers was providing plenty of run from the wing and was a good target to help link the play.

Angarane found some space out of a contest, steadying to add her second.

Karingal scored its first goal for the game and picked up some momentum, however, the Bass Coast defence held up well making good decisions under pressure.

Cloe Booth was impressive, bringing speed and strength to the backline.

Cargill played on after marking in the forward line, taking a bounce and finishing off with another lovely goal.

With Karingal again pressing in the last quarter, the Breakers’ leaders stood up, with Sophie McCracken-Evans and Russo working hard all over the ground.

Final score: Breakers 5.5-35 def Karingal 2.1-13

Best: Jenna Russo, Tess Angarane, Katie Cornish, Sophie McCracken-Evans, Carly Heislers

Goals: Tess Angarane 2, Ella Cargill 2, Jenna Russo 1

The Breakers welcome Red Hill/Balnarring for another Friday night clash this week 7pm at Dalyston.
