A BIG crowd turned out for the Breakers fourth annual Pride match with the ground suitably adorned with rainbow 50 metre arcs painted by Bass Coast Shire, rainbow lights and array of Pride flags.

The home side also unveiled their new Pride jumpers which were designed by the players.

In perfect conditions the contest started off quite even with both teams defence doing a great job. This resulted in the ball spending a lot of time through the centre and few scoring opportunities for either team.

In the second quarter the Breakers came out firing with a clean clearance from the first ruck contest sending them into attack.

Quick hands from Tess Angarane out to Tayla Stahl finally broke the stalemate giving the Breakers the first goal of the match.

With scores hard to come by and the ball getting slippery the second half was another good contest.

Chloe Booth and Katie Cornish continued to repel everything at half back with great second efforts and driving the ball forward.

Breakers ruck Ellen Williams was giving her team first use of the ball with Jenna Russo and Molly Conroy active all over the ground.

The Breakers work rate remained high and they surged forward from a contest with Gina Luru at the end of a chain of handballs to score her first ever goal.

Carly Heislers continued to work hard on the wing, positioning well and creating a contest to limit Tyabb’s run.

Tyabb dominated the play in the last quarter however the Breakers defence once again held up strong, with great talk and safe play.

Final score: Breakers 2.1-13 def Tyabb 0.5-5

Goals: Tayla Stahl, Gina Luru

Best: Ellen Williams, Jenna Russo, Cloe Booth, Molly Conroy, Carly Heislers

This week the Breakers take on Mount Eliza away on Saturday at 12pm.
