INVERLOCH’S Cameron Butler attempted to stifle Phillip Island’s run, taking five wickets on Saturday.

Phillip Island travelled to the Inverloch Recreation Reserve and won the toss, choosing to bat first. 

Opening batsman David Fusinato had Phillip Island heading in the right direction with 35 early runs.

Peter Francis later top scored with 36 runs.

The rest of the batting order struggled as multiple wickets fell to Butler and Matthew Marston.

Butler took 5/32 and Marston took 2/18.

After 57 overs, Phillip Island was bowled out with a score of 10/124.

Wickets were also taken by Wayne Chapman and Jay Mottram Carter. 

Inverloch will have its chance to bat this weekend. 

Glen Alvie to fend off the Cougars 

GLEN Alvie is tasked with defending its score this Saturday against Koonwarra L/RSL.

Koonwarra L/RSL won the toss and chose to send Glen Alvie in first.

Glen Alvie had a quiet, consistent innings with Daniel McGuirk making the top score of 28 runs.

David Hynes added 25 runs towards the end of the batting order.

Wicket taking was shared between the Koonwarra L/RSL bowlers. 

Spencer Chadwick, Campbell Riseley, Shane Paterson and Tom Collins claimed two each.

Glen Alvie finished the innings 10/129.

Koonwarra L/RSL opened its account and made 2/29 after nine overs.

Collins scored 11 runs before he was dismissed after a catch from Owen Luff.

Alexander Stanley and captain Kevin Thorne had reached nine and six runs respectively to remain not out at stumps.

The Cougars will continue its innings this Saturday. 

The match details for the games between Leongatha Town and Korumburra, and Kilcunda-Bass and MDU, were unavailable before going to print.
