AFTER losing the first innings, Wonthaggi Club turned it around to defeat the Imperials by seven wickets.
Club was quick to end the Imperials’ first innings, bowling the away side out 10/94 on day one of the A1 match.
However, Club had just as much difficulty hitting the scoreboard and was ultimately bowled out 10/72 on Saturday.
Stewart Beaumont and Gavin Britt were the only Club batsmen to have any real impact on the scoreboard, making 19 and 17 runs respectively.
Imperials vice captain Lachie Wright dominated, claiming six Club wickets.
Isaac Bolge took three and the remaining wicket fell to Aydan Williams.
The Imperials opened its second innings, hungry for an outright win.
Club was eager to dash their hopes, with captain Joel Brann and James Sheerin quickly taking out the top of the batting order.
Batting fourth in the order, Nick Eddy restored hope for the Imperials with 34 runs.
This ended up being the top score, with captain Jack Ginnane and Luke Rogers adding 12 and 14 runs.
For Club, Mark McCall put the pressure on the Imperials, taking 4/5, seeing out the bottom of the order.
Three wickets fell to Brann and two to Sheerin.
The Imperials were bowled out 10/81.
Club was fired up for its second innings, opened by Mitch Thomas and Brann.
At 1/19, Brann was caught by Klayton McGrath off the bowling of Wright for 10 runs.
Mitch and Ryan Thomas made 34 and 22 runs respectively, and Britt secured the points with 31 not out.
Wright claimed two wickets and one wicket was taken by Ginnane.
In an impressive effort, Club won the game with a score of 3/104.
Island’s twin tons too much for Burra
KORUMBURRA was no match for the might of Phillip Island.
On day one, Phillip Island recorded two tons, which resulted in a handy total of 4/346.
Korumburra took on the challenge and played out its innings on Saturday.
Mustafa Nader opened well, making 40 runs.
Andy Millar, Tom Crocker and captain Ben Spicer were quickly dismissed at the hands of Phillip Island bowlers Max Royal and Timothy Niven.







They made nine, a duck and six runs respectively.
Their dismissals saw Rumesh Rangana and later Jason Richards step up to the crease, who contributed another 30 and 40 runs to increase Korumburra’s final total.
Royal was one of Phillip Island’s top bowlers for the day, claiming 4/41.
The other was Zac Brown, who took 4/21, wiping out the bottom of Korumburra’s batting order.
In the 55th over, Korumburra conceded defeat and was bowled out 10/162.
Nerrena caps off victory
NERRENA went into day two of its A1 match against Koonwarra L/RSL with its eye on the Cougar’s score of 10/113.
At the end of day one, Nerrena had made 2/60.
Picking up where he left off, Tadgh McGannon put 28 runs on Nerrena’s scoreboard.
Thomas Cameron later led the Red Caps to victory when he made 59 runs, alongside Mitchell Clark who contributed 27 not out.
Joshua Thomas was Koonwarra L/RSL’s stand-out bowler, taking 2/31.
Single wickets were shared between Matt Cooke, Jason Kennedy and James Rushton.
Nerrena declared with a score of 5/153 in the 50th over, sending Koonwarra L/RSL in for a second innings.
Koonwarra L/RSL was slow to add runs to the board as Timothy Wightman took out the batting order.
Wightman’s bowling figures for the day were 5/44.
Kennedy top-scored for the Cougars with 35 not out and Cooke contributed a further 18 runs.
Koonwarra L/RSL had a score of 7/105 at stumps.
OMK cruises past Town
OMK overpowered Leongatha Town on Saturday.
Town was previously bowled out 10/116 and OMK resumed its innings from 3/58.
Clayton Quaife was the star batsman for OMK, top-scoring with 59 runs.
OMK’s comfortable score was assisted by Koby Brann and Jacob Lamers making 46 and 40 runs respectively.
Town bowler Rhett Hume did what he could to slow OMK, taking 3/26.
Jack Hume and Buwaneka Wakishta claimed two wickets each.
In the end, the game belonged to OMK, which finished up with a score of 10/240.
