THE C1 season restarted on Saturday and Korumburra rose to the top early after a win over Leongatha Town.
Playing at the Poowong Recreation Reserve, Town won the toss and chose to bat.
Nigel Hodges made a strong start with 41 runs before he was dismissed LBW by Shane Dole.
Town wasn’t able to have much more of an impact on the scoreboard, with Julian Aeschlimann and Callum Smith wrapping up the innings with 15 not out and 11 runs respectively.
Dole was Korumburra’s best bowler, taking 2/8.
Wickets also fell to Thomas Sorrell, Darren Scott, Hudson Jefferis and Tyler Dole.
Town had made 7/111 at the end of 35 overs.
Korumburra’s opening partnership of Dole and James Dunn made 31 and 23 runs respectively, setting the Cobras on the path to victory.
Scott and Jhai Townley pushed them over the line with 24 not out.
Korumburra claimed the points with a score of 3/114.
Club cruises past Island with perfect 0/91 chase
WONTHAGGI Club breezed by Phillip Island’s score of 10/90.
Phillip Island chose to bat first at Wonthaggi’s McMahon Reserve.
Michael Cleary opened with 15 runs and the Sharks’ top score of the day turned out to be 36 runs from captain Tony Hornsby.
The Club bowlers were in form with Chris Fraser, Matt Sharp, Justin Licis and captain Sam Liddle sharing the rewards and taking two wickets each.
Club went in to bat and the opening partnership of William Speed and Licis was all that was needed.
Speed made 49 runs and Licis made 35 – both not out when the win was decided.
Club enjoyed a victory with a score of 0/91.
Walker and Fitzpatrick shine as OMK edges out Kilcunda-Bass
A STRING of ducks from Kilcunda-Bass handed the win to OMK.
Kilcunda-Bass won the toss at Digger Park, choosing to bat.
Robert Blackney and Rupesh Elava were the only batsmen to make any real impression on the scoreboard, making 30 and 20 runs respectively.
OMK bowler Luke Walker was then responsible for three of four ducks.
Jordan Myors was also a multiple-wicket taker, claiming 2/14, including a duck.
The effort forced Kilcunda-Bass to try to defend 8/80.
OMK produced similar results as Kilcunda-Bass bowler Stephen Leman helped his team work through the batting order.
Leman took 4/13 and Chris Henderson took 2/19.
OMK’s top score went to Owen Fitzpatrick, who retired not out with 35 runs.
Russ White contributed 20 runs to the score.


OMK did enough to pass Kilcunda-Bass’ score with a final tally of 8/82 after 18 overs.
Nerrena had the bye.
C Grade, Division 2
MDU’s dominant bowling display
KOONWARRA L/RSL was also overpowered by MDU.
Playing at the Dumbalk Recreation Reserve, MDU won the toss and sent Koonwarra L/RSL in to set the target.
Significant contributions were made by Koonwarra L/RSL batters Gabrielle Perry, Kevin Thorne and Steven Anderson, who made 14, 16 and 19 runs respectively.
The rest were quickly dismissed by MDU’s bowlers.
MDU’s top bowler of the day was Glen Cocksedge, who took 3/0.
Cocksedge dismissed Thorne before he continued his run and took out Jai Brocklebank and Campbell Riseley for ducks to close the innings.
Craig Hoober and Harper Cocksedge were also multiple wicket takers for MDU.
Koonwarra L/RSL felt the pressure with a score of 10/73.
For MDU, opening batsman Craig Hoober retired with 29 not out.
Although this turned out to be the top score of the day, it was all that was needed as Gary Webster and Callum McCaughan won the game with 10 and 15 not out. Tom Collins claimed the two fallen wickets for the day.
MDU won with a score of 3/76.
Stingrays storm into new C2 season
INVERLOCH relaunched the C2 season with a decisive win over OMK.
The Stingrays hosted OMK at the Inverloch Recreation Reserve, where the Diggers won the toss and chose to bat first.
OMK made a slow start to the innings.
Mathew Walker made 16 runs before he was bowled by Shaun Hayes and Callum McKenzie later top-scored with 31 runs before he was caught by Callan O’Flynn off the bowling of Jay Mottram Carter.
Hayes was Inverloch’s star bowler, taking 3/27.
O’Flynn and Mottram Carter took two wickets each.
OMK were sent out to defend 7/103.
However, passing OMK’s score proved to be an easy feat for Inverloch.
The opening partnership of David Harris and captain Warren Stewart stepped up to bat and didn’t leave until the job was done.
Harris made 30 runs and Stewart made 65, with both not out when the game was won.
Inverloch’s winning tally was 0/110 after 28 overs.
Nyora had to forfeit its game against Glen Alvie.
Phillip Island had the bye.
