A Grade, Division 1

MUSTAFA Nader led Korumburra to an impressive score of 10/353 after recording 125 runs in the A1 match against Koonwarra L/RSL.

The Cobras travelled to the Koonwarra Recreation Reserve and started their strong campaign by winning the toss.

Nader opened the batting with Andy Millar, who made a handy 46 runs.

Nader was eventually stopped when Matthew Boswell took a catch off the bowling of captain James Rushton.

Rushton and Jason Kennedy also had a day out and kept the pressure on the Cobras, taking 5/85 and 5/74 respectively.

Korumburra was given another boost when Rumesh Rangana – batting fifth in the order – stepped up and made 96 runs until his wicket fell to Kennedy.

Korumburra was bowled out just before the end of their alloted overs.

Koonwarra L/RSL will dig deep to reach its target this Saturday.

Nerrena dominates Imperials

NERRENA is hungry for an outright win after its onslaught on the Imperials.

The Red Caps won the toss and sent the Imperials into bat first.

Nick Eddy managed to top score for the Imperials with 18 runs, with vice-captain Lachie Wright adding another 10 later in the innings, but the run rate overall was slowed by the Nerrena side.

Nerrena bowlers Josh Trease and Jarrod Hoy shared the honours by taking 3/17 and 3/34 respectively.

Timothy Wightman was also a multiple-wicket taker.

In the 36th over, the Imperials were bowled out 10/60.

Nerrena wasted no time reaching the Imperials’ score playing out their innings until stumps.

Opening batsman Jack Curtis made 69 runs before he was caught by Isaac Bolge off the bowling of Martin Reidy.

Wright, Bolge and Reidy managed to dismiss Loc Roberts, Tadgh Gannon and Hayden Funnell for one run, two runs and a duck respectively.

Mitchell Clark made 47 not out by the end of the day.

Nerrena made 4/122 and now hold the upper hand over the Imperials.

Royal rampage for Island 

PHILLIP Island delivered a tough contest for OMK at the Newhaven Recreation Reserve.

Batting first, OMK had a slow start until captain Koby Brann stepped up, batting fourth in the order.

Brann made 41 runs before his wicket fell to Zac Brown thanks to a catch from Kohen Beaumont.

Phillip Island bowler Max Royal worked overtime to ensure OMK barely touched the scoreboard.

Royal took a whopping 6/17, with two wickets falling to Brown and one wicket claimed by Kurt Lane.

OMK was bowled out with a score of 10/105.

Phillip Island batted 21 overs and made a threatening 1/74.

Lachlan Cleeland opened the batting with Beaumont and remained 43 not out. Beaumont’s wicket fell to Peter Dell after 11 runs.

Captain Daniel Mock was next in and is 15 not out.

Phillip Island will continue its run on Saturday. 

Town’s big chase

WONTHAGGI Club played a solid innings and is set to defend 10/254 this weekend.

Playing at Scorpion Park, Leongatha Town won the toss and chose to send in the away team.

Captain Joel Brann led his team to the handy final score with 59 runs.

Stewart Beaumont, Ryan Thomas and Jarvis Harvey contributed 43, 45 and 41 runs respectively.

Harvey was not out at the end of the innings.

Ethan Smith was Leongatha Town’s top bowler for the day, taking 3/43.

Dulaj Lakshitha Mendis Polwaththa Gallage, Madura Madusanka and Ron Abeysinghe took two wickets each.

Club faced 74 overs before it was bowled out. 

Town is now awaiting its turn to bat.
