A Grade, Division 1

LACHLAN Cleeland and captain Daniel Mock continued their formidable partnership for Phillip Island, which resulted in an incredible two tons.

Cleeland’s campaign saw him reach 104, while Mock made the top score of 116 runs.

Both batsmen had their time at the crease ended by OMK bowler Zavier Lamers.

Phillip Island easily reached OMK’s score of 10/105 but continued to play out the innings.

Brodie Johnston made 38 not out and Jarrod Black made 24 runs.

Lamers and captain Koby Brann took the bowling honours for OMK, claiming 2/40 and 2/3 respectively.

Single wickets were taken by Travis Pickering, Peter Dell and Jake Cochrane.

Phillip Island called it a day and declared at 7/313.

Imperials’ solid second dig

Nerrena was eager to secure an outright win against the Imperials on Saturday.

The Red Caps had made 4/122 after bowling the Imperials out 10/60 in day one of the two-day A1 match and opted to declare, sending the Imperials back into bat.

Campbell Reid and Rowen McLennan opened the batting for the Imperials, making 15 and 13 runs respectively.

McLennan’s wicket was claimed by Timothy Wightman at 1/125, sending in Timothy Sauvarin.

Sauvarin was the Imperials’ first glimpse at an improved innings, as he went on to make 26 runs before he was dismissed LBW by Wightman.

Batting fifth in the order, Nick Eddy top-scored with 34 runs before he was run out by Darcy Berryman.

Wightman was Nerrena’s best bowler on the day, taking 3/65.

Singles were taken by Archie Gannon and Jack Curtis.

The Imperials were ultimately unwilling to relinquish an outright win to the Red Caps, delivering a good score of 6/153 to end the match.

Nerrena won the game on first innings points.

Koonwarra crumbles under Spicer

KOONWARRA L/RSL was unable to match Korumburra’s dominating score of 10/353.

After stumbling early, Koonwarra L/RSL’s innings started to pick up when Kayden Scrimshaw made 17 runs and Callum Buckland top-scored with 34 runs.

Batting fifth in the order, captain James Rushton hit 26 runs, but little more was recorded for the rest of the innings.

Between the bowling prowess of Korumburra captain Ben Spicer and Gayathra Shehan Amarasinghe Mudalige, Koonwarra L/RSL struggled to hit the scoreboard.

Spicer claimed 4/26 – including two ducks late in the innings – and Amarasinghe Mudalige claimed 4/32.

The remaining two wickets were taken by Mustafa Nader.

Koonwarra L/RSL was bowled out 10/112 in the 40th overs.

Korumburra decided to go for an outright win, sending Koonwarra L/RSL back in for a second innings.

The partnership of Anthony Hunt and Mitchell Scrimshaw opened for the Cougars.

Spicer continued his impressive run by bowling Hunt for one run.

He then took out Kayden Scrimshaw and Callum Buckland for ducks.

The partnership of Mitchell Scrimshaw and Rushton combined well to make 28 and 45 runs respectively.

Rushton was not out at stumps, but Mitchell Scrimshaw also fell victim to Spicer.

Benjamin Heppell and Harry Scrimshaw were the last ones to step up to the crease but only managed to add six and four runs respectively.

Their wickets were taken by Andy Millar and Amarasinghe Mudalige.
