B Grade, Division 1

ROUND two of the B1 competition saw a shaky start for some with others taking home comfortable wins.

Nerrena claimed a swift victory over Korumburra. 

Playing at the Leongatha Velodrome, Nerrena won the toss and sent Korumburra in to bat first.

The opening partnership of Trevor Allen and Caleb Turton set the pace, making 26 and 12 runs respectively.

However, these turned out to be the best score of the day.

Turton was bowled by Ryan Clark at 1/22, and Philip Richards stepped up to contribute a further 10 runs.

Charlie Dougherty was Nerrena’s best bowler of the day, claiming 3/4. 

William and Mitchell Croatto claimed two wickets each.

Korumburra was bowled 10/69 in the 38th over.

Billy Trotman and Eamon Berryman opened the batting for Nerrena.

The batsmen won the game with 37 and 26 not out respectively.

The winning score was 0/70, reached in the 20th over.

OMK dominates Inverloch with Kerr’s 4-wicket haul

OMK also secured a comfortable win over Inverloch.

The Diggers hosted the Stingrays at the Outtrim Recreation Reserve, with Inverloch winning the toss.

Inverloch’s opening batsman Warren Stewart top top-scored with 36 runs.

Jay Mottram Carter, Nic Dobbie and Cameron Butler were the only other batsmen to hit double digits, making 14, 10 and 12 respectively.

Butler was not out.

OMK captain Kris Kerr led by example and took control of the match, claiming 4/9.

Mitchell Andrew and Trevor McGeachin were also multiple wicket takers.

Inverloch was bowled out with 10/105.

McGeachin and Mitchell Sawyers opened the batting for OMK.

McGeachin put OMK in a comfortable position with 46 runs and Sawyers made 13 runs before their wickets were taken by Butler and Dobbie.

Mitchell Andrew and Brock Furness polished off the match with 27 and 10 not out respectively.
OMK won a final score of 2/108.

Sharks triumph over MDU despite Bright’s brilliant century

PHILLIP Island and MDU battled it out at the Rhyll Recreation Reserve.

Phillip Island won the toss and elected to bat first.

A slow start to the innings allowed Kurt Lane to step up and top score with 70 runs before he was bowled by MDU captain Jai Bright.

Captain Andrew Finlayson contributed 43 runs and Timothy Niven made 29 not out.

Bright and Craig Hoober took two wickets each.

Phillip Island set the target for MDU with a respectable 6/211 at the end of its allotted overs.

MDU was off to a rough start with opening batsman Clayton Fisher dismissed for a duck by Niven.

However, Bright kept MDU in contention with an impressive 104 not out.

Dylan Zuidema and Dale Thomas contributed 25 and 36 runs respectively, but a few more ducks to end the innings saw MDU fall short.

Harry Arceo was Phillip Island’s top bowler, taking 3/37.

MDU managed to reach 10/187, surrendering the win to Phillip Island. 

Wonthaggi Club had the bye this round. 


B Grade, Division 2

Imperials outclass Town

THREE wickets shared between Imperial’s bowlers Cameron Bruce and James Jeffery decimated Leongatha Town’s batting order on Saturday.

Playing at Leongatha’s East Campus, Town won the toss and chose to bat.

Opening batsman Steve Fixter made eight runs before he was bowled by Bruce.

However, Bruce and Jeffery were then responsible for a slew of ducks, quickly dismissing the Town batsmen.

Colin Bruce top-scored for Town with 35 runs and Alex Aeschlimann later added 28 runs.

For the Imperials, Cooper Rickard, Kristian Gray and Noah McLennan were also wicket takers.

Town was bowled out 10/95.

Kane Maskell and Alan Curnow opened the batting, leading the Imperials to victory.

Maskell made 35 runs before he was bowled by Lachlan Gill and Curnow made 40 not out.

Samuel Vagg contributed eight runs and Francois Botha made one not out.

Gill was responsible for both wickets.

After 27 overs, the Imperials won with 2/96.

Foster fails to deliver

FOSTER failed to defend its score against Koonwarra L/RSL.

Foster won the toss at its home ground and chose to bat.

Captain Brandon Busutill made a strong start with 42 runs, along with Tim Garvey with 24 runs.

However, these were the best efforts of the day with Jarryd Guganovic the only other batsman to crack double digits.

Koonwarra L/RSL bowler Matthew Boswell performed well, taking 3/11.

Glenn Boxall and Tom Collins were also multiple wicket takers.

Foster was in a vulnerable spot with a score of 7/99 at the end of its allotted overs.

Lance Moon made a statement by bowling Boxall out for a duck after facing six balls.

However, Nigel Grimes put his team back on the right track with 50 runs.

Ashley Boxall and Glenn Matthies also made 13 and 11 runs respectively.

Foster bowlers Moon and Archer Gibson took two wickets each.

The game went to Koonwarra L/RSL with 5/101.

Knox unstoppable for Nyora

NYORA successfully chased down Kilcunda-Bass score to claim the victory.

Playing at the Nyora Recreation Reserve, the home team elected to bowl first.

Kilcunda-Bass captain Ray Gardiner opened well with 39 runs and Zac Crow later top-scored with 41 runs.

Nyora’s Jaylen Waixel took the most wickets, claiming 3/14.

Benn Hayes and Sam Henry took two wickets each.

Kilcunda-Bass was ready to defend 10/145.

Fifty-one runs from opening batsman Colin Knox proved defending the score would not be an easy feat.

Knox was unstoppable and was not out by the time Nyora had won the match.

Opening batsman Jordan Knox contributed 41 runs.

The Kilcunda-Bass bowlers picked up the pace and Crow wiped out Nyora’s order with 5/27.

Single wickets were claimed by Rohan Duff and Shaun Tapscott.

However, Nyora had done enough and won with a score of 8/146.
