B Grade, Division 1

NERRENA was the only team to record a second victory after defeating Inverloch on Saturday.

Playing at the Nerrena Recreation Reserve, Inverloch won the toss and chose to bat.

Throughout the innings, Inverloch slowly added to the scoreboard with Christian Terlich making the top score of 14 runs.

Shaun Hayes and Jay Mottram Carter added 13 and 12 runs.

Charlie Dougherty was Nerrena’s top bowler, taking 3/11.

Mitchell Croatto and Jaxon Checkley were also multiple wicket takers.

Inverloch was bowled out with 10/85.

James Kelly opened the batting for Nerrena and provided a solid start with 29 runs.

This ended up being the top score, but with Ryan Clark adding 23 not out, it was enough to secure the game.

Inverloch’s Nic Dobbie claimed 2/15.

Single wickets were taken by Callan O’Flynn and Cameron Butler.

Nerrena’s winning score was 4/86.

OMK overpowers Burra

KORUMBURRA held its own, but OMK was much too strong on the day.

The Cobras welcomed OMK to the Korumburra Recreation Reserve and the home side won the toss.

Darren Scott and Philip Richards were Korumburra’s top performers, batting 29 and 25 runs respectively.

Richards was not out at the end of the innings.

Shane Taylor was OMK’s top wicket taker, claiming 2/8.

Singles were shared between five other bowlers.

Playing out its allotted overs, Korumburra was set to defend 7/104.

OMK was quick to run over this score.

Russ White was quickly dismissed for four runs after he was run out by Richards.

However, Robert Quaife and captain Kris Kerr went on to make 49 and 21 not out.

Mitchell Nicholas finished it off with 25 not out.

Darren Scott was Korumburra’s only wicket taker, claiming 2/17.

OMK won with a score of 3/106.

Club clinches win over MDU

PLAYING at McMahon Reserve in Wonthaggi, Club recorded a win over MDU.

MDU chose to bat first after winning the toss.

Captain Tyrone Zukovskis was dismissed for a duck, but the partnership of Wayne Prosser and Mike Olden went on to make 33 and 32 runs respectively.

Club bowlers Matt Sharp, Bryce Evans and Chris Fraser wiped out the rest of MDU’s batting order with two wickets each.

MDU was bowled out 10/123.

Club made a steady start to the innings, but Jai Williamson got the ball rolling with 22 runs.

Captain Sean Roche and Mitchell Davey finished it off with 27 and 20 not out.

MDU bowler Brett McKnight took 2/23 and single wickets were taken by Clayton Fisher and Olden.

Club was victorious with 5/124.

Phillip Island had the bye this round. 
 

B Grade, Division 2

KOONWARRA L/RSL is sitting on top of B2’s ladder after a closely-fought match against the Imperials on Saturday.

Playing at Leongatha’s East Campus, the Imperials won the toss and chose to bat.

The Imperials had a steady start to the innings but opening batsman Kane Maskell managed to contribute 21 runs.

Captain Samuel Vagg top scored with 28 runs later in the innings.

Cougars’ bowler William Cashin dismissed Vagg and took 3/8 overall.

Britney Thomas was also a multiple-wicket taker, claiming 2/22.

The Imperials played out their allotted overs and were tasked with defending 8/128.

Though Koonwarra L/RSL opening batsman Glenn Boxall went on to make 18 runs, the swift dismissal of Ashley Boxall for a duck kept the hopes alive for the Imperials. 

Louis Read and vice-captain Adam Drury fought back with 23 and 31 runs respectively later in the innings, which would prove crucial.

Imperials bowler Cameron Bruce made it hard for the Cougars to get runs on the board early, taking 2/17.

Singles were claimed by James Jeffery, James Forrester, Maskell and Noah McLennan.

The Cougars made it over the line with a score of 9/132.

Glen Alvie triumphs in nail biter six run win

ANOTHER close call was played out between Glen Alvie and Nyora at the Glen Alvie Recreation Reserve.

Ultimately, the home side was victorious.

Nyora won the toss and chose to send Glen Alvie in first.

Ian Thorn was immediately dismissed for a golden duck off the bowling of Ryan White.

Captain Darcy Hale saved his team later in the innings with a top score of 58 not out.

Thirty runs were also added by Glenn Moore.

The bowling of Tyler Perkins slowed Glen Alvie down, claiming 3/37.

Tully Bernaldo took 2/4. 

At the end of the innings, Nyora’s target was set at 8/129.

A consistent start to the innings saw Daniel Esler, Lincoln Brock and Jordan Knox contribute 14, 12 and 15 runs respectively.

Fourth in the order, captain Keith Linford top scored with 26 runs, dismissed by a catch taken by Jay Tiziani off the bowling of Hale before any more damage could be done.

Hale and Lachlan McRae took two wickets each. Nathan Thatcher added 13 runs to end the innings, but Nyora couldn’t catch up. Nyora was bowled out six runs short with 10/123. 

Hardy and McRae power Leongatha to victory

THE might of Leongatha Town proved too much for Foster on Saturday.

Foster travelled to Scorpion Park and won the toss, choosing to bat first.

Billy Davy kept his team in it with 48 not out.

Gurinder Singh also made 30 runs.

However, Town bowlers Samuel Clark and Frazer Livingstone made scoring opportunities difficult by taking three wickets each.

Blake McRae was responsible for stopping Singh.

Foster completed its allotted overs and finished up with a score of 7/124.

Town’s opening partnership of Nigel Hodges and Clark did not last long at the crease, with Hodges dismissed for a duck and Clark making just eight runs.

However, Mark Hardy stepped up and batted 54 not out.

Batting sixth in the order, Trent McRae soon joined Hardy and made 51 not out, securing the game for Town after 31 overs.

Lance Moon claimed 2/35 with Jedd Davy the only other wicket-taker for Foster.

Town’s winning score was 4/125.

Kilcunda-Bass had the bye this round.
