Demons cruise through Stingrays
Owen Fitzpatrick sends one down for OMK.

• B Grade, Division 1

MDU hosted Inverloch at Meeniyan Recreation Reserve and the hosts won the toss and sent the visitors in to bat first.

Uncharacteristically, the Stingrays lost multiple early wickets and unfortunately the trend continued throughout their innings as they managed just 9/94 from their 20 overs.

Amad Mujtaba (21 from 10) continued his good form, top scoring in a low scoring innings, Jake Palmer (3/19 from 4) was the pick of the bowlers for MDU.

In reply, the Demons absolutely cruised to the total, punching on 82 runs before even losing a wicket, however, they did lose 3/8 in a brief Stingrays fightback as young spinner Josh Williams (3/17 from 4) jagged all three.

However, the hosts were good enough to still pull off the win by seven wickets, Colin Knox (28* from 36) and Matt Martin (54 from 40) were the standouts.

Eddy and the Imps dominate OMK

OMK hosted the Imperials at Outtrim Recreation Oval, and the hosts won the toss and sent the visitors in to bat first.

Unfortunately, though they were made to regret that call as the scintillating form of Nick Eddy (121* from 65) continued, blasting a remarkable unbeaten century off just 65 balls, including 10 fours and seven sixes!

Gary Sauvarin (60* from 44) also batted with great form as the Imps posted a mammoth first innings total of 1/222 thanks to the Sauvarin – Eddy partnership of 182!

Barry Wyatt (1/32 from 4) claimed the only wicket for OMK.

In reply, the runs did not come as easy for the Diggers who were in all sorts of trouble early, falling to 8/36!

Fortunately, they were able to recover and avoid being dismissed, to finish 8/99 after their 20 overs thanks to a strong innings from Shane Taylor (46* from 30).

The Imps took the win though by a massive 123-runs, as Eddy (3/8 from 3) capped off one of the greatest best on ground performances ever taking three wickets to go with his century.

Nerrena win low scoring battle

NERRENA travelled down to the Koonwarra Recreation Reserve to face Koonwarra L/RSL and the visitors won the toss and chose to bat first.

The Cougars started well with the ball taking 3/25 but Nerrena were able to recover well to reach 8/109 after their 20 overs thanks to solid scores from the middle order, such as Damien Symmons’ (31 from 30) dig.

Paris Buckley (2/18 from 4) was strong with the ball for Koony’.

In reply, the Cougars never really got going at a rate that was high enough to see them complete the chase, as they fell 22-runs short in the end despite decent showings from Nigel Grimes (25 from 36) and Alex Stanley (21 from 32).

William Croatto (2/9 from 4) bowled well for Nerrena in the win.

Island edge out OMK

OMK welcomed Phillip Island to Outtrim Recreation Reserve and the hosts won the toss and chose to bat first.

The Diggers looked to score quickly but this meant they lost wickets on regular occasions throughout their innings, on their way to 8/117.

Scott Handley (25 from 28) top scored at number seven, as Geoff Odgers (2/17 from 4) was the pick of the bowlers for the Island.

In reply, the Sharks got of to a shaky start losing their skipper Connor Epifano (3), but his side were good enough to soldier on and reach the OMK total five wickets down, thanks to some strong batting from the middle order.

Andrew Finlayson (29 from 24) top scored in the win, while Odgers (22* from 21) backed up his great spell with the ball by finishing off the chase unbeaten.

Nerrena escape Sharks chase

NERRENA welcomed Kilcunda Bass down to Nerrena Recreation Reserve and the hosts won the toss and chose to bat first.

In a steady innings, Gerard Murphy’s (27*) unbeaten knock and team high score saw his side finish 5/91 after their 20 overs.

Rohan Duff (2/21 from 4) was the standout with the ball for the Sharks.

In reply, the visitors gave it a red-hot crack, taking it down to the last over of the match but unfortunately the run out of Neil Grant saw them fall agonisingly short, losing by one run!

Dawson’s knock sees Town over Alvie

GLEN ALVIE hosted Leongatha at Glen Alvie recreation reserve and the hosts won the toss and sent the visitors in to bat first.

After a troublesome start, losing 3/21, Town were able to resurrect their innings on the back of Wil Dawson’s (63) half century that included five fours and five sixes!

They finished on 6/130 and Jarrah Standish (3/21 from 4) was the pick of the bowlers for Glen Alvie.

In reply, The Alvie just couldn’t find the same rhythm, as their top order all found starts but couldn’t convert, seeing them finish 6/72 and fall 58-runs short.
