Wonthaggi v MDU
WONTHAGGI hosted MDU at McMahon Reserve and the hosts won the toss and chose to bat first in blustery conditions.
With a young line up in, Club struggled from the outset as the Demons feasted on wickets and starved their opponents of runs.
Steven Riley (3/7 from 6) led the MDU attack as they dominated the first innings, with three other Demons bowlers each taking two wickets.
The Club skipper Luke Borne (15 from 35) top-scored in a tough showing for his side who were dismissed for just 66.
In reply, the going got even tougher for the hosts, who unfortunately were unable to reel in the Demon demolition as the visitors rolled to a 10-wicket win with 20 overs to spare.
Dale Thomas (32) and Tim Bright (26*) saw their side home unbeaten, they’ll now host Koonwarra L/RSL this Saturday, while Wonthaggi will have the bye.
Nyora v Korumburra
NYORA hosted Korumburra at the Nyora Recreation Reserve and the former won the toss and chose to bat first.
In an interesting innings, Daniel Esler (54 from 54) made a match-defining half century, while his teammates struggled to find runs.
The opener’s brilliant innings set up his team for a decent total, but eventually saw them fall 10/108, which one would think gave the visitors an unmissable chance to win.
Although, it truly was a tough day for batting, as the Cobras stumbled in their chase and ultimately fell 40 runs short of the small target.
They too found the majority of their score from their number two batter, Jacob Wrigley (23 from 17) as the rest of the XI failed.
All 20 wickets fell in a dramatic afternoon, as Darren Scott (3/7 from 6) bowled well for Korumburra and Lincoln Brock (2/14 from 3) for Nyora.
The Cobras will now lick their wounds and look to next week, while Nyora will ride their wave into what they hope will be another victory.
