Brad Anderson made a remarkable 500th appearance for Koonwarra L/RSL on Saturday.

• B Grade, Division 1

MDU hosted the Imperials at Meeniyan Recreation Reserve and the visitors won the toss and chose to bat first.
The majority of their 135 runs came from their middle order as the Demons attack, led by Colin Knox (3/25 from 8), took nine wickets.

Needing 136 for the win, the hosts had absolutely no issues in the chase as Knox (77* from 103) capped off an outstanding all-round game with an unbeaten half century.
The Demons won by 10 wickets and will look to hold their form in this week’s match up with Korumburra, the Imps will have the bye.

Stingrays survive the Diggers heat
OMK welcomed Inverloch to the Outtrim Recreation Reserve and the hosts won the toss and chose to bat first.
The Diggers lost regular wickets throughout their innings and eventually battled to 8/150 with Zavier Lamers (28) top scoring, with young gun Rhys Newman (2/9 from 6) doing the damage for Invy.

In reply, the Stingrays captain, Brett Debono’s (92 from 138) stellar season at the top of the order continued as he saw Inverloch into a winning position with another half century despite losing several partners along the way.
Shane Taylor (3/15 from 8) fought hard with the ball in the 3-wicket loss, he and OMK will host Nerrena this weekend.
Inverloch will host Koonwarra.

Cougars win in Ando’s 500th
KOONWARRA L/RSL celebrated a true club legend on Saturday when they hosted Korumburra at the Koonwarra Recreation Reserve.
The Cougars lost the toss and were sent into the field, but it was all about their stalwart wicketkeeper Brad Anderson who notched a truly remarkable milestone.

Saturday marked the 500th time the legendary keeper took to the field for Koonwarra and the club celebrated accordingly, with streamers flying, a strong crowd in to see Anderson walk through the guard of honour set by the two sides and the Frogbox set up for those to watch from home.

Koony started excellently with the ball too, putting the Cobras under early pressure, and they never recovered, losing wickets with great regularity to finish their 40 overs 9/90.

In reply, the Cougars promoted the milestone man to open the innings, but unfortunately Korumburra didn’t get the memo, as he was dismissed for just three.
This didn’t deter the home side though as they cruised to the small ‘Burra total with eight wickets to spare, Anthony Hunt (35 from 46) top scored in the chase, while Bryce Riddell (1/14 from 4) bowled well.

Anderson will look towards his 501st appearance this weekend as the Cougars head down to Inverloch to face the Stingrays, the Cobras will face MDU.

Nerrena had the bye.

The Island holds off Wonthaggi
WONTHAGGI gave their all striving to muster the required 200 for victory, but Phillip Island held firm at Newhaven to secure a 5-run victory, with the chasing side running out of overs.
Half centuries from keeper Brady Ross (59) and Tharidu Asurumui (56 not out) helped set a solid score for Phillip Island after it elected to bat first.

Chris Fraser was the pick of the Wonthaggi bowlers with figures of 2/30 from his eight overs including the prized scalp of Phillip Island skipper and opener Connor Epifano who made just three.
While six of Wonthaggi’s batting line-up made solid starts, only Justin Licis (52) reached a half century, but his heroics were cut short by an Andrew Tolley run out.
Sean Roche’s knock of 36 was next best.

While Fraser and Jayden Burns managed an unbroken 30-run partnership for the ninth wicket, the Sharks’ total proved just beyond reach.
Tarryn Allan was the only multiple wicket taker for victorious Phillip Island snavelling 2/32 off his full allotment of overs.

Leongatha Town gets job done in Nerrena
SKIPPER Mark Hardy led the way for Leongatha Town against home team Nerrena, with his 43 proving crucial on a day when runs were hard to come by.
Luke Ashton’s unbeaten 28 was also critical to the Scorpions’ success, and was a patient innings that took 63 balls to compile.

Levi Hickey helped out with a quickfire 11 not out off six balls that included a six and a four, with the Towners completing victory with two overs and as many wickets to spare.
Ashton deserves credit for what proved to be a manageable task for the Scorpions, having captured 4/33 off his seven overs to ensure Nerrena wasn’t able to fully capitalise on its decision to bat first.

Josh Schelling was the other Town bowler to manage more than one wicket, taking a tidy 2/17 off five overs.
Ryan Giliam’s economical 2/24 off eight overs and Mitch Croatto’s 3/36 from seven overs for Nerrena ensured the chase was a challenging one for Town.

Kilcunda-Bass in charge from early on against Glen Alvie
GLEN ALVIE captain Jay Tiziani elected to wield the willow first in Dalyston, with his 35 proving to be the side’s highest score.
Extras were the next biggest contributor, accounting for 17 runs, with Joe Burke just behind on 15.

Although Glen Alvie saw out its 40 overs it was tough going and its total of 108 equated to just 2.7 runs per over.
Shaun Tapscott (3/12) and Rohan Duff (3/17) were the chief destroyers with the ball for Kilcunda-Bass, with both sending down their full allotment of overs.

Stephen Leman also delivered eight overs, capturing 2/26.
There were no weak links for the Sharks with the just the minimum five bowlers rolling their arms over.

Kilcunda-Bass openers Peter Miller and Alister McBride set a foundation that all but ensured success for their side, with the former dismissed for 33 and McBride going on to an unbeaten 40.
Glen Alvie didn’t give up, removing Leman and Scott Williams cheaply, but there weren’t enough runs to defend and Kilcunda-Bass recorded a comfortable seven wicket win with three overs to spare.

Despite the loss, it was a tidy display from the Glen Alvie bowlers with Zack Scholz and Lachlan McRae each taking 1/26 off their full complement of overs and Burke the other wicket taker with 1/23 from seven overs.

OMK had the bye.
